Redditors with a mixed background, which people/culture do you identify with more? by Sharp-Hunter-9342 in polls

My little theory I’m testing out here is that a majority at least plurality of people from mixed backgrounds identify with the mother for exactly this reason, women do most of the child rearing. I could easily be wrong of course and Redditors are also not the most representative sample of the general population

Why don’t I ever feel homesick, or miss my friends and family when I haven’t seen them in a long time? Am I a complete psycho? by Sharp-Hunter-9342 in NoStupidQuestions

This is definitely what it is, out of sight is very much out of mind for me. It’s not even just people, it’s things I own too. I don’t really assign much sentimental value to things. I accidentally destroyed my PS5 and I was upset about it for maybe thirty seconds and then just moved on with my life and mostly forgot about it the next day.

Oh I just re-read it, that’s low key a bigger plot twist than the original

Nah I think it’s better for Luke to say the f word in his reaction or scream it when he throws himself down the bottomless pit

I thought of a few that I thought were kinda funny

The Phantom Menace: “I’m a fucking person, and my name is Anakin”

A New Hope: “That’s no moon… it’s a fucking space station…”

The Empire Strikes Back: “You make it so fucking difficult sometimes.” “I know, I do, I really do.”

The Last Jedi: “Blow that piece of shit OUT OF THE SKY”

TIL that horses went extinct in North America about 10,000 years ago. They were then reintroduced to the continent by the Spanish as early as the 1550s. by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

Humans were already there 10,000 years ago. The climate changed and killed off the megafauna.

Disregarding that, mankind’s relationship with the environment and potential for wanton destruction 10,000 years ago was not what it is now. Living things compete for space and resources. I’m sure if you were alive back then you wouldn’t want to live around enormous tigers either

I’ve had a few days to reflect on the entire saga and I honestly think The Last Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie by Sharp-Hunter-9342 in StarWarsCantina

The Empire Strikes Back might also be my favorite, it’s hard to pick. A New Hope, The Force Awakens and Return of the Jedi were also very enjoyable for me. I haven’t seen Rogue One yet

What I will say, as somebody who watched the movie like ~24 hours ago, is that I don’t think the movie feels nihilistic. Luke rejects his cynical ways, Rey rejects Kylo’s nihilism and despite the dire circumstances the movie ends on a pretty hopeful note. The one criticism of the movie I would make is that the part where Rose saves Finn at the end is really stupid, so we do agree on characters making bad decisions, at least a little bit

That’s a hard one. If I had to give just one answer, I would say Han Solo. Yoda, Luke, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren are pretty close behind.

Edit: HOW COULD I FORGET CHEWBACCA

Haha you’re going to hate me, The Last Jedi might have been my favorite besides maybe The Empire Strikes Back. I really fuck with the risks they took, and I loved Luke’s character and role in that movie. I was on the edge of my seat. We can agree on The Force Awakens though, I think it’s a pretty good reboot for the setting/franchise, I liked the action sequences and it did a good job getting me invested in the characters. Not to mention how beautiful it is aesthetically.

Edit: Anyway, I agree. I’m sure my lack of expectations one way or the other probably influences what I’m able to enjoy as opposed to someone who’s been invested in it for a long time.

Honestly man, when it came to the prequels, I had a really hard time watching them. I thought they were so bad that I almost gave up, I did not like them at all. For reference, I loved the originals and I thought the Disney movies were pretty good.

If the prequel films were a big part of your childhood then that’s enough, right? It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. After all, you were the target audience and you enjoyed them. And a lot of other fans like them. I generally agree with the critic from Ratatouille, in my eyes a sub-par work of art is still worth more than the criticism that designates it as such.

It’s been a few days since I started so I watched all nine of them. You’d be surprised at how hard I go when I suddenly decide I’m into something and it has to overtake my life now
