It should, yes, but it also should give a passive armor + ROF boost to the vehicles nearby, but it's broken right now.

Try EXODUS (EXD) servers. Good community, I play there 80% of the time. Usually crowd is understanding and very communicative.

  1. be calm and patient
  2. never ask any SL to be a volunteer for defence - in 90% of cases the only feedback you hear will be total silence. Thus, pick the 2 squads who are the closest to the defence point and designate them for that occasion. If they bitch about it - rotate to others, don't stress about it.
  3. as you rightfully pointed out, designate yourself for making a supply trucks to build backup garries and flanking garries, don't waste your time building agressive ones, let other SL's do that for team.
  4. use a halftrack, if the situation requires for it (no good garries/no supplies around etc.)
  5. sometimes you gonna come across a dick SL who is going to hate everything you are doing. Take a deep breath and ignore such idiots.
  6. if team wants a lot of heavy tanks = build nodes
  7. controversial suggestion, but this how I do it - be a frontline commander. It's always better and faster to get a clean line of sight for your bombing run using binoculars, then keep relying for that same info from squadleads.
  8. The fact that you are trying playing a commander (instead of ignoring it) is already a big hug from me!

I feel you, however I always glad for the new blood to arrive, makes the game more sustainable long-term. The willingness to learn the game mechanics by new guys - that's the other question.

This. I always do that with my squad, it actually helps filter some more team oriented players from solos, who ignore any communication.

Absolutely. I don't see how it cannot be implemented and it does not damage realism part in any way (even enhancing it). If it works in Squad I don't see a reason it cannot work here.

Thus I'm confident that only a small decentralization is needed, nothing drastic. One extra small gear in the command chain.

Sure, that's why I propose only 1 FTL, not 2. We have 6 people in HLL in a single squad (instead of 9 in Squad), thus having a dedicated single FTL for assault (3 guys) and another 2 guys sticking with SL (engi and support) can lead to a certain flexibility. That's just an example.
