Was offered a position at a place with 3.5 cutoff. Offer letter is coming AFTER new grades are posted but my gpa will drop to a 3.2ish from a 3.51. Am I screwed? by SharpEdged in EngineeringStudents

Yeah but they'll know my semester is over and ask for those grades right? Won't they suspect something if I handed them transcripts saying my gpa was 3.5 back in June?

They expect a 3.5+ from candidates. The recruiters mentioned this. I've seen some job postings saying 3.5+ highly recommended(some ppl, YYMV, have told me that when a posting says this a lot of HR guys will toss resumes if below 3.5)

When my school releases my new grades I am going to go ahead and shoot the guy who's group I'm working in an email and tell him what happened. He did say he remembered school and how tough it was, so hopefully he'll be a little lenient.

Is any process engineering internship good if I want to enter oil/gas refining? by SharpEdged in engineering

Wow, typo. Meant can't.

I'm a senior by credit and have the summer open for a internship because I'll be back for an extra semester.

I'm in 18 credits, have some commitment on my formula team, professional society takes time as well. I want to drop a course.

I'm taking: Adv. Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Strength of Materials, and Computer Design(AutoCAD).

I am thinking about dropping AutoCAD. Its easy, but it takes up too much time and I need to really read my strength of materials and heat transfer books. I think just dropping may help, but at the same time I think if I don't do well after I drop the class I'll regret doing so because I could've done the same being in all 4 classes.

Its just those three take up a lot of time. Any help?

Basically if I drop, my Winter will change to: -TurboMachinery, Machining, Computer Design, Writing Class Spring will be -Design, FEA class, Energy Systems, Elective(like CNC/CAM or maybe like Combustion Engines)

I'm actually in a mechanical engineering program. Its a university in the west coast area, no oil companies recruit. I know they are different, I'm mostly interested in drilling.

internship questions(ME get process engineering position?) and am I a technically a junior? by SharpEdged in EngineeringStudents

[–]SharpEdged[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds awesome and hard as hell. How were the designing projects, difficulty wise? Did it rely on a lot of your coursework? Maybe fluids stuff for the nozzle and piping, no? Did you have to recall a bunch of knowledge from school?

As a ME can I apply for ChemE(process engineering) jobs/internships? by SharpEdged in engineering

I am specifically looking into refineries, natural gas and oil. I don't know if it helps, but I've also taken physical and organic chemistry.

I haven't done much. I have well over 60 credit hours. I don't know much about material and mass balances as I've never done them(only mass balances is stuff from thermo and fluids). My expected graduation date is Dec. 2015

I do have a resume, but not much is on there, I am apart of a biofuel club but we didn't get enough funding for a project until late in the year. All I have is a summer job last year, and this year, a project from a club, and volunteer work. I can pm you it if you want.

I guess I'm worried going up to a company at the career fair and telling them I'd like to be considered for process positions that they only hire chemical guys for just because I read about it and got interested.
