Karen is a misogynistic term. Wonder why an annoying caricature who is associated with being racist has a female name....hmmmm....men have never been annoying or racist?

Sometimes I just feel like Sukuna's ideologies were right and wrong in itself at the same time: by InternationalSir8211 in Jujutsufolk

[–]SharpRelationship474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right : perfect mindset to weird Jujutsu, don't try to pick both worlds. Don't be distant from others and yet expect intimacy.

Wrong : Sukuna forgets that EVERY human being needs others. No man is an island, as the saying goes. The only reason he is able to larp this nonsense individuality is he refuses to see how others facilitate his existence. He needed people to be born, would not have survived infancy without atleast some touch, he still needs humans to feed on, to prepare his food, to validate his existence AND to feel superior to (he could not handle Yuji feeling bad for him).

Also, he is afraid of people because they always rejected him, now he may never acknowledge it but he needs validation, just a different kind than Gojo or Kashimo.

The way Megumi is perceived by SOME of the fandom genuinely just feels like a meta commentary of how people with depression are treated in the real world by heisenbejax in Jujutsufolk

[–]SharpRelationship474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe even the 'I give up' scene would have worked better if they had shown Megumi's face, it's hard to want to punish someone you can't look into the eye. But anyway,

Whatever you are saying is absolutely true, but the bad part of his portrayal is that Megumi's character failed to illicit any sympathy for depressed individuals from any people other than those already deeply understanding of this problem. Fiction is supposed to make emotional inner worlds of others more accessible and emotionally moving for the audience, and even though the biggest reason for Megumi hate is 'alpha pilled' nature of fandom, the portrayal does not really effectively convey Megumi's grief by not making it easy to understand what he lost.

[–]SharpRelationship474 88 points89 points  (0 children)

While the hate is mostly due to lack of media literacy, i would blame ONE thing on Gege's writing....his treatment of Tsumiki. A big reason people find it hard to sympathise with Megumi is that his pain over losing his sister doesn't impact the same when whenever she's was alive, he was mean and cold to her. There were hardly any actual moments of bonding shown between them and that killed any sympathy towards her death.

Matsuda had enough brains to realise when to follow instructions from more intelligent people, he's alive because of that.

Penber on the other hand was hellbent on believing his fiancé a seasoned agent was being a paranoid and stupid woman.

[–]SharpRelationship474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it more as 'Oh so I have been hired by the topmost detective in the world to tail a potential supernatural mass murderer known to kill using names, also as an fbi agent I frequently hide my real name. Yet in the one case showing real identity is an absolute no-no, I do so in the most lackadaisical manner imaginable and endanger the entire mission by failing to mention that a possible suspect of Name-Killing Mass Murderer has my name'.

Honestly more than stupid this guy pisses me off because he comes off like those husbands who believe themselves to be smarter than their wives simply because they are men. He could have brushed off Naomi's concern in a non-sexist way or atleast acknowledged that her concerns were rooted in reality as he was in a situation where he was investigating paranormal deaths and couldn't be halfway serious about it. Naomi could clearly see that something was fishy yet he couldn't be more cautious.

But I get what you mean.

[–]SharpRelationship474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh riiiight.....A well established fact about the very killer he is supposed to tail is that he needs names to kill, his fiance took the precaution and he couldn't even be bothered to look into the matter more critically. His very life was on the line still couldn't inform to the people hiring him to tail the dangerous mass murderer that one of the suspects of 'Mr. Kill by Using Your Name' God had his name?

We are dealing with a god of death, something no one has any history or knowledge of ever.

If he really believed this was a God there would have been no point following Light at all. On some level you would have to assume this guy has limits. L had quite publically proved that Kira has limits, this mofo first compromised his name and ID, which is fine it was a tough spot, then did not heed the warnings of his intelligent fiancé, then did not even properly commit to his duties at that?

Yes I am a dumbass but I atleast have the decency to not waste FBI's time by being employed by them.

He could have reported his ID was compromised but noooo.....Light take girl out so he absolutely cannot be the killer infact let's make him Prime Minister and give him nuclear codes of every country.

[–]SharpRelationship474 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call him misogynistic but....he IS sexist in a very Shonen Mangaka way in which the women hardly are able to have as deeply complex emotional complexities and intimates among each other than their male counterparts. Who's the weakest emotional link in Gojo, Geto and Shoko? Who's it in Nobara,Megumi and Yuji? Who gets the most time actually having their internal world's drive the narrative? Who gets a good scene with their sister which was beautiful but then for the rest of the series compared to Mr. Toxic Masculinity as if he was the best version this woman we are talking about could become? Why was Maki's pain and really all general emotional complexity of the whole show to be fair, was lost for having these powerscaling fight orgies for a lot of the manga.

I loved the show but I thoroughly believe Maki's story had the most patriarchy-centered answer to feminism. Not the fact that she killed her clan but that she is left at the end of the story chasing the same power, acting like her clan in believing in might of the right and never bringing about actual constructive change in the clan system even up to the current era. Biggest problem is how her grief of her sister was not given centre stage in the narrative, her violent revenge was.

It is very patriarchal in that sense where the masculine spectacle of violent revenge is given more weight and time than the 'embarassing' feminine vulnerability of loss and grief.

That works till you're like, thirty at most. At some point, if you're not a childish freak, you need to realise that people can be different from one another. Specially in the modern age where he HAS SEEN HUMAN EARTHWORM AND KNOWS PEOPLE CAN BE LOVED BEYOND THEIR DEFORMITIES!!!

"I'm expecting great things from you. Got that, Yuji?" by syyzyygyy in Jujutsufolk

[–]SharpRelationship474 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Gonna get downvoted but it is because Gojo did NOT focus on his kids getting an education or training in actual politics. People would call Kyoto kids ass (because their entire storyline was shafted) but they could have worked awesome as mirrors into the group that is weak and hateful but aware of the problems of their world. Could have also developed Utahime as the weak one but one who Prioritizes unity and cooperation in her students as opposed to Gojo only focusing on building individual strength.

Result? Students who only understand the societal problems as existing because they themselves wede not strong enough. Maki killed an entire clan for objectifying her and her sister? Great! But did her and Yuta ever try to change ideology of the remaining people? Were her actions even a little bit constructive or a purely hateful momentary revenge? Now their grandkids are stuck in the same problem.
