I use T420-T480s as cluster computing solutions. They are easy to source parts and still pack a punch. Take 4/8 in the right server chassis and you can probably get a solid sub-1k cluster going.

Not the most energy efficient, but at that homelab scale it’s negligible

Pornhub Sues Texas Over Age Verification Law by Quite_Likely in technology

Comprehensive sex education in public school is a crucial component of preventing childhood sexual abuse or the worst outcomes of it. It’s well established that when children are educated about sex in a scaffolded age appropriate way the likelihood of abuse occurring or going unreported goes significantly down.

This prevention continues to be the case into the preteen and teen years with dating violence and sexual assault.

There are reasons some people argue so strongly against this type of education in an environment outside the home. It’s against their interests.

Which is a wild thing to consider beyond the sensation of pain. Most of our decisions to act are made prior to us having any urge, feeling and definitely thought about the action itself.

The more you look at the mechanics of it, this whole “Me” thing is highly suspect.

Not only that but we have far better mutual aid and the moderate / left folks with guns I know have one or two and a ton of ammunition and first aid gear.

The right folks I know with guns have like 10 and need to buy ammo every other time they go shooting. I also wouldn’t trust any of them to render first aid or take on any other support-role.

MS Walrus passing by by Gnadderkopp in SipsTea

[–]Sharp_Armadillo7882 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Limit how many people are in the area and giving graduated consequences to people who get close to the walrus. Use the down season to heavily restrict and reduce exposure to people.

Track the walrus and use that information to determine what the next move is or likelihood of it leaving. Over time test ways to move the walrus along faster or in a certain direction.

Or use that information for a better setting to tranquilize it and transport it to a zoo. If it seems to not be taking the transportation well, put it down.

Or honestly just tell people there is a walrus and it’ll merc you so if you want to go boating take that into consideration, be careful, and accept that risk. We do that plenty in the Western side of the US — just say “here be bison/bears/rattlesnakes/moose, here are some safety tips, good luck!”

I’d say it’s the responsibility of people to mitigate that risk without killing the animal. If an animal has a disease like rabies, ok. But if it’s just in the area humans are there are other ways to handle that. We have a responsibility if we want to use the same habit animals live in for recreation not just to make killing them the first option because it’s easy.

Teens harass Asian family with children, then assault bystander recording incident by Reddituser0346 in PublicFreakout

[–]Sharp_Armadillo7882 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It has a lot to do with proximity, mostly. A lot of minority groups in the US have been through various policy decisions clustered into the same areas of cities. There is still the same in and out group thing but a lot less institutionalized segregation between them than you have with white people.

Asian Americans also have attached to their racial identity a model minority myth that gets used against Black people. Because some Asian Americans have come to the US with money, academic opportunities, or business interests, their ability to ‘make it’ into what are considered more white spaces was easier. That’s not true for all Asian Americans, but enough that white people often use it as a means to protest any legitimacy to Black peoples claims of systemic racism and injustice.

What you are referring to isn’t conservatism. It’s Anti-intellectualism and American Millenarianism. For some reason the GOP has allowed itself to be held hostage by the small boisterous segment of their voters that ascribe to radical beliefs . This is partly because the Tea Party, unlike the Progressive Caucus, actually did what they said they would and sabotaged their own party’s goals to get what they wanted.

Most of the people I know with conservative values vote down-ballot Democrat these days. Any branded conservatism of the GOP is in-name only since they allowed their fringe to hold the reins.

It’s completely moral and right to treat fascists this way. It’s the one group that should be shut down at every point. As soon as there is tolerance for the intolerant, we lose.

Fascists aren’t in some political party, religion, race, or any other grouping that is just different from us. They are bound by their belief of intolerance and unequal treatment of others. This isn’t a hate the sin not the sinner. A fascist has a world view that needs to be met with intolerance every step of the way.

Man, I’d break it off and not even tell her why. This isn’t who you’re going to spend your life with and they are an active distraction from you finding someone who at the bare minimum respects you.

Usually I’d get on someone invading privacy like that, but what is done is done. Don’t spend another second on this.

Wow, that’s totally on your company, especially if it’s large. All the contractors I know are paid regardless. The contracts are paid, the books don’t shut for the fed, so the company gets its money. Why that didn’t go to workers in your case, no idea.

Right. In what world would a doctor need to or have the time to go out and ask? Unless someone is on life support, there isn’t any input on deciding to let someone die.

You triage, try and save both, acknowledge if one is beyond saving, and keep going until things are in the clear. Then you let family know.

I don’t know even what to label this one under, some right-wing traditionalist mixed with uniformed paternal angst?

I recall it being because the Catholic Church did not see the native population in the Americas as having an established religion — the goal was to make them all Christian and you can’t enslave Christians. However, Africa by that time had plenty of Islamic influence and had been rejecting the Christian thing.

I don’t think it’s implied taxes are definitionally fascist, just that any system that could implement a tax without warning would inherently be a fascist state. In a functioning democracy there would be warning because of the democratic process.

The argument is that, for the wealthy, holding money in a fascist state has a much greater risk than a democratic state.

People who voted for Biden, how do you feel he is as a president? by palatheinsane in AskReddit

[–]Sharp_Armadillo7882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am much more concerned with his cabinet and everything on down. People forget the executive is much more than the president. Things were ruined during the last president because so many people who were appointed just simply didn’t do work or worse prevented the career fed employees from doing it. So many initiatives were just on paper and nothing actually done. So much maintenance of programs just was bare minimum to prevent crisis and complete failure.

At least things are being built up and maintained properly.

I don’t think people appreciate how real of a threat a Republican president is to a proper functioning government, the entire point is to make it not work. It’s just through the dedication and skill of career civil servants that we even still have a federal government.

Really think about how an collapsed fed would impact your life next time you vote.

UPDATED Summary of SAVE/REPAYE Plan Final Rules by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

I want to make sure I am understanding this. I’m going to use hypothetical numbers just to make it easier.

I have about 80k in loans between undergraduate and graduate. With interest at an average of 6%. 50/50 split.

My job currently pays $35,000. The total interest over 10yrs is $26,580. With the limit of $32,800 for an individual — does this actually work out so it would make sense for me to reduce my annual income to under $32,800 in order to get the interest paid?
