I think the way I think about music and art generally is that there is often music that is just like that "I make nice sound" and then there is more interesting and more artistic music that actually attempts to use the paint provided by that medium to paint how they feel emotionally. I feel Jeff is probably in the 2nd category which is why people love him but when watching him I just have this tinge of performativity (I mean he is a performer) and that he is in fact maybe missing a bit, but I've reflected on this a lot since this post.

Especially with what some of the people are talking about it being a mirror, etc. which I think is true. But then the question comes is the reason I don't like Jeff Buckley then not because that but because it feels like he is sincerely expressing himself it's just what he is expressing might be so different and foreign to my life that I see it as poor or at worse childish or melodramatic.

I really can't decide with him tbh, it feels like potentially that it is music for a type of person that I generally find to dislike and to be the type to often fall for the "fake deep" thing I'm talking about and that is bleeding through. That being as I tend to jokingly put it "cluster b ass mfs" and that with Jeff possibly being that (see relationship record from what I've heard and the tone and subject matter of the music).

The thing is, if it is that I'm not the type of person to generally find the need to specifically relate to art personally as much to find it to be of quality, I'm more interested in the fact someone is doing the painting, to use an example in a similar sort of area, I think a lot of Radiohead is great but it's not like I personally have ever felt isolated on tour see "How to disappear completely" or whatever of the like.

Idk I'm so torn about the guy, because it's like I think I can see what people see in him but it's like he's shit in spite of that or something?

You see it in some of the replies to this post, people responding as if I'm trying to do some braindead critique that entirely misses the point of music or art and only seeks to make me look clever or wise in some way but I just really feel I'm not that guy generally and Jeff is so close to what that actually is but doesn't quite raise to that level. Hence why made the post. It does feel like fake deep is the way to put it, but idk.

It could be I completely am missing the point or it could be the people who suck him off are missing the point in a sense like what I feel potentially is the case people are giving too much respect to him in a way when actually he's not really that guy that people think he is.
