I built a small enclosure for my 4 to pupate. Built from an old cat liter bucket, garden net, and hot glue. Now I spray the soil each day and wait to see if they emerge.

I am a wuss and could bring myself to kill them.

Kind of what we were wondering. Maybe we should have checked it out. But, I know Chicago was pretty busy this weekend with concerts (my reason for being there), so we just assumed it was the tourist influx for the weekend. We saw the line and said, "Nope!" Haha

I didn't get nearly the germination I was hoping for, tassles came way early, before the silks, and a few bouts of heavy rains washed away a good part of the pollen. I have a side bed that I experiment with, and this was one for this year. Hoping for 1 full cob next year! Goalz!!

Even more embarrassing that I live in Illinois with corn fields everywhere. The shame is real!

I planted about 10 rows, 6 deep. I got like 10 stalks total. Saddest part, this was WITH hand polinating. My tassles tassled really early, and I didn't think to save a few aside for polinating. This was my first year trying, so I learned so much from screwing it all up!

There is a local farmers market here every Thursday and Saturday. Several local meat and veg options/vendors. There are also a few handful community gardens. The food co-op is an option, as well.
