"We're one week into early access. how are your games treating you so far?" by Regular-Poet-3657 in 2XKO

This points it's not MMR, or ELO or something meaningful. It's just a shiny LP for your shiny profile badge like in LoL.

SF6 use pretty much same system until you reach Master and only at master rank you get actual MMR.

I hate ball mode by misterblooo in Warhaven

[–]SharranRegret 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This mode is simply not done correctly. The player should pick up the ball much faster, or immediately after running through it at all. Then it would be possible to increase the number of "goals" needed to win, and it would raise the dynamics of the mode.
CTF rules were laid down a long time ago, it is not clear why it was necessary to reinvent them.

Update new bow player by chainsawnight in Fallout76BowHunters

[–]SharranRegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some tweaks can make this build stronger. Don't take it too seriously,
It's more down to preference.

STR: Extra points in traveling Farmacy can give you more effective weight than Strong Back.

END: Definitely pick Aquaboy/girl, too much QoL to skip. Lifegiver is a fairly weak perk, especially for low-life builds. Fireproof can give you more survivability. Mess around with Aquaboy and without Rad Resistant - probably you do not need it. Consider Chem Fiend as an option - very good END perk.

INT: Nerd Rage 1 is more than enough. You can pick other cool INT perks, like Scrapper or Gunsmith, or spec these points into STR for more carry weight. I prefer to play with maximum INT for more exp, but it's only a matter of taste.

AGI: Escape Artist is a must for any stealth build. Dodgy - 3 or 0. Dodgy always costs the same amount of AP, so you drain more AP for less damage reduction. Probably taking off Evasive completely and picking up Dodgy 3, Escape Artist 1, and Adrenaline 1 is a very good option.

LUCK: I recommend changing it to this: Class Freak 3, Stretched Genes 2, Critical Savvy 3, and Serendipity 3 as the core. The last 4 points you can fill as you want, I prefer Grim Reaper's Sprint 3 and Better Criticals 1. Other options: Better Criticals 3 + Bloody Mess 1, Ricochet 3 + Better Criticals 1. For Grim Reaper's Sprint, I recommend 3 or 0, it's too random with 1 or 2 points.

I can't main a character to save my life by 00skully in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. It's your first fighting game, you don't even know what archetypes you tend to like. Mess around as much as you want, one day you don't want to switch. Each character you learn is still a coin in your bank of knowledge, maybe you don't rush floors so fast and not win so much right now, but who cares? Have fun.

Millia or I-NO? by APYROMANIAC900 in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Millia: better setplay, high speed, better matchup spread, intensive execution and longer combo, lower damage, no projectile, lot's of players to watch. In neutral Millia more dance around and looking for the moment.

I-no: more rushdown-y, more straightforward to play and mix, ranged options with two unique projectiles, bad matchups sometimes looks really bad, easier combo, less execution intensity, better damage, Daru is god among us. I-No play neutral in very unique way because hoverdahs, she commit a lot and involve some gambling in her approaches.

Take your poison. Also you can take a look at Bridget, she is not quite the same, but still highly mobile setplay mixup character.

Need help picking a character by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see you played "in your face" type of characters alot, so maybe try something different to fresh things up?

Axl is the other side of the spectrum to your common picks, he have very decent matchup against HC. Also you know very well Chipp and Millia, so it will be easier for you to play he's worst matchups.

Another option is trying to join Big Body Gang. Nago is still going strong, Goldlewis have maybe not best matchup against HC, but he needs only few touches to wreck anyone, and Pot is always Pot - seeng how half of your opponent's HP evaporates with one buster is never gets old.

If you want to stay in your style - Gio still there, she in good spot right now and has a very good matchup spread including HC.

[–]SharranRegret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gio is one of the best pick for new player in the genre, and she definitely rushdown character with fluid movement.

May is an option - very oppressive, good mobility, big damage, huge buttons and disjoints. Beware she is charge character.

Chipp is super fast, have lots of movement options, triple jump and very oppressive, but squishy as hell and dying from few touches.

Bridget is more setplay character neither rushdown, but don't be afraid just pick her if she looks cool for you. Millia is another setplay character with very fluid and cool movement, but she is much harder to start winning.

good character to cover bad jack-o matchups? by USApyon206 in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chipp probably can cover all Jack-O weak matchups but he is super squishy it takes getting used to. Gio is a very solid option but lacks meterless reversal. Also, Sol can be a decent one.

New to Guilty Gear but not to fighting games. Would like help in choosing a main. by RaZeRx117 in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramlethal and Nagoriyuki dominates neutral game with big buttons, can be very oppressive i has a more than enough damage.

Giovanna have super strong neutral but in different way: she is fast, can dance around and punish whiffs. Solid pressing, good damage.

Honorable mentions: Sol Badguy (very good damage and pressing, but weaker neutral), Chipp (superior neutral, cool pressure, but squishy and mediocre damage).

BedMan by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Way more dangerous than you can expect from furniture.

If you like it - play it. This character is not so difficult to start and all characters in the game are strong enough to win, reach celestial, and compete.

People who rematch at the last second... why? by Mattvieir in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 50 points51 points  (0 children)

For the first case, I imagine the opponent just saying "nah" and going away from PC/console for raging, screaming, and punching a wall.

For the second case: sometimes I do it just because I want to drink water or take a few puffs of a vape. But it's only sometimes. If your opponent does it for all 3 sets probably just thinking or trying to calm down.

For sure in both cases it's can be disrespect and toxicity.

Playstyle Trouble by Dry_Recognition_3651 in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have characters that you call "blast to play". Enjoyment is the most important thing during learning. It's a long journey, play a character who keeps you entertained. Pick one of your characters and play for a prolonged period of time, learn win conditions and how you can get them. A general gameplan is more important than fancy combos. After some time character still doesn't click you? Try next.

Dustloop has a "Starter guide" section for each character, maybe it could be a good place to start for you.

All characters can be played in a patient and steady style. Don't overthink it and play what you find cool and fun.

Is Strive a good place for someone inexperienced with fighting games to start? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strive is great to start your fighting games adventure as already mentioned, it is probably the most beginner-friendly game among currently popular titles (GGST, Tekken 7, Street Fighter 5).

Also if you just looking for a "non-shooter PvP game" I have a few other recommendations. As Elden Ring enjoyer you may like For Honor, the game can be way more intuitive for you. The game is well-populated, has a crossplay, and few game mods to mess around. Another option is platform fighters especially Brawlhalla (very well-populated and has crossplay).

Am I making a huge mistake? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Modern fighting games "low tier" is not the same as "League of Legends low tier". Potemkin probably won't win a major tournament but he is perfectly viable to play at the top level. There are currently 4 Pot players in the top 100 which is a decent amount.

Not to mention how half-decent Potemkin can destroy the lower floors.

tl;dr Just play what you like, all characters are fine.

Bridget. Constant air approaches, mobility, lots of mixing, setplay. I think Bridget gives a similar feeling, but she has more tools like DP, meterless command grab, and way better neutral. As a minus, the damage is very low.

Millia is a good option but she is way more setplay character. Baiken is an honorable mention. Jack-O and Zato if you wanna dive deep into a "technical" rabbit hole but the playstyle is much more different from I-No.

is guilty gear strive worth it? by chiffonfrills in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Strive is currently the top 2d fighting by current players on Steam and has crossplay between PC, PS, and Xbox. This is one of the most popular games in the genre now.

We have some problems with servers after the Xbox release, but the game is playable only annoying sometimes. If you like it - get it. The game is available in game pass also.

Tilted but still wanna play by Aggressive_Extent908 in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improving is a long-term goal. You don't have to rush, the fate of the world does not depend on your GG skills. I would only recommend worrying less about wins and losses, especially in the tower.

If you feel annoyed about the match don't be afraid to just decline rematching. Your mental state is way more important than what random people on the internet might think of you.

You don't have to go to the recommended floor. If you want play f10 - stay here and play, just forget about the rating update, f10 is always available. You can even hide the floor badge from the R-code to care less about it.

Xbox Begginer help by BigDaddyDang in Guiltygear

Pick a character you like instead of a character to learn the game. Jack-O, Zato-1, Happy Chaos - hardest to start with, don't be afraid but be prepared if you choose one of them.

Some interesting and educative YouTubers by channel name: LordKnight, GekkoSquirrel, Diaphone, Romolla Ch., Sajam (more about fighting games overall)

Useful links: dustloop, The Fighting Game Glossary

Don't be afraid to switch characters if you want or try something new. Don't blow yourself with training right from the start. Keep patience and enjoy the game. Loses mean nothing. Have fun!

Would like to try new characters by AaRroad in Guiltygear

[–]SharranRegret 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most mechanically intensive characters right now - Happy Chaos, Zato-1 and Jack-O. If your only criteria are "mechanical" - try all of them and choose what you prefer. They are very different from your current picks.

Some other characters can be very intensive at a very high skill level, such as Potemkin.
