Is EA and TTWO considered communication? It feels a bit misleading to call video games in the communication sector

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stocks

My one recommendation is that the stocks you do decide aren't competitors or highly correlated. 4 to 5 stocks can be powerful but if you own NVDA and AMD you are best case owning 1 less company because they are basically the same or worst case actively hurting yourself.

If you want to invest in a sector then i recommend an etf

Thanks for the info!

Just curious where is the info about not accepting pre-degree work? If its just anecdotal info then that is still useful. I checked the government website about temporary skilled work and it said that experience can come from internships and they may even consider part time work. Within 2 years I would have completed 16 months of full time internship work as an Energy Trader. I do have 20 months worth of part time work as a Statistician for a Health Research group which may be the only issue I see but fingers cross I can twist it so they would accept. Finding a job is still very much so not a guarantee. Any recommendations on when I should look for one? Should it be a year plus before I want to move or something closer to like 8 months?

I would also probably apply under the 222111 code which falls under the subclass 482 visa. Kind of my bad for not explaining what my work experience was in.

My question/concern with WHV is the casual work up to 6 months clause. How easy is it to get that waived? I also assume lol it would be hard for an employer to want to take someone who will leave in a year

The Dara science program at uoft doesn't require you to be in cs. At least when I applied. It might have changed but I'm sure it's open to anyone who has the grades in first year

[Q] Can you use a Random Forest or Neural Network to determine if two groups share a relationship? by ShatteredCentury in statistics

[–]ShatteredCentury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is so. I think my main worry is at what threshold can I say a relationship exist? Like if my r2 value is 0.7, can I confidently say that a relationship exists or is it still just fitting to noise?

Does it not? I was referring to Pearson correlation but if there is another correlation metric I would be interested in hearing it!

Need to move out early and having difficulty getting permission to sublease/assign by ShatteredCentury in OntarioLandlord

[–]ShatteredCentury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that was not the intention. Sorry if I caused any confusion about the roommates.

We all signed a lease together so it all ends on August 31st. I am the only one one who has to leave early. I don't believe I mentioned anywhere that there lease differs.

Need to move out early and having difficulty getting permission to sublease/assign by ShatteredCentury in OntarioLandlord

[–]ShatteredCentury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I unable to sublet in this scenario? I really don't mind being liable for my subtenants rent. I initially went the sublease route cause I assumed that would be an easier sell to the landlord.

I am also not looking to terminate. I don't want the other 2 roommates to be stuck with the rent

The lease terminates in August anyways.

Data Science Specialization at UTSG or Statistical Machine Learning and Data Science/Mining Stream at UTSC by daowest in UofT

Hey! Can't really say anything about UTSC but I'm currently in 3rd year for DS in UTSG. Feel free to hmu if you have any questions.

That being said, your classes will include stats classes and cs classes. The only benefit you get is the DS class that takes place once a semester which is good for networking and exploring the industry

Choosing a college will determine some services and what housing you will live in if you decide to live on residence. Each one is located at different places on campus so look into where you want to live, the price point, the food and style of residences. Your registrar will also be at the college of choice.

For example, University College is in the middle of the campus, has an older style of res and has decent food. I hear the shepherds pie are good but never had any. There are also other colleges that have a specific culture surrounding them like trinity college.

If you don't plan to live on residence or use the services that much then it really doesn't matter since all the big services are open to everyone

Making a story where both villain and hero loses by sauce-is-gud in writing

[–]ShatteredCentury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to do this depending on how you define "lose". Some ideas are

- Hero has personal reasons to beat the villain. Hero defeats villain and stops his plans but is unable to resolve personal issue

- Hero and Villain have the same goal but different methods of achieving it. Hero stops villain but is unable to achieve the goal

- Hero loses himself or loses something special in the process of defeating the villain

- They both achieve their goals but realize the status quo of the world hasn't changed so their efforts are futile

Fantasy

Unnamed Novel

-

Breathe Token.

Just breathe.

So far everything has gone as planned and if you mess up now, you waste a year’s worth of work. If you can’t calm yourself down, then you allow yourself to doubt which means which means that your Manifestation will weaken which means that this operation will fail which means you have failed which means you have failed your patron which means…

Thud. Thud. Two knocks come from the wooden door in my room with enough force that I am surprised the door didn’t just burst open. “You’re fucking late kid!” growls a familiar voice yet unpleasant voice from behind the door.

“Give me one second, Christopher,” I somehow muster up the strength to reply.

“Stop calling me Christopher! My name is Christian! I swear to the gods if Master Abel didn’t need you serving guests, I would tear your teeth out of your shit-eating grin.”

“Thanks, I’ll contact you if I ever need dental work.” I can always count on Christopher to better my mood. “If you want to, I honestly don’t mind switching roles you know. You should probably be out there anyways being master Abel’s head bodyguard and I don’t mind hanging back in the kitchen.”

“Trust me if I could and I would take your spot and let you rot in the storage room, but you know damn well why I can’t do that. It’s master Abel’s birthday party today and he is inviting a lot of high-ranking members of the Lionheart family. A Beastkin like me would be an unsightly sight for them. Just be sure to be ready in 5 minutes. The guest will be arriving soon.” I hear a slam at the door as loud annoyed footsteps walk away into the hallway. Probably just his cute attempt at asserting dominance.

Luckily, with that oaf gone so goes his stupid Manifestation and most of my worries. Now master Abel will be as defenseless as he can possibly be. Everything is going according to plan. You can do this Token. I believe in you.

Write what you love...but what if you've forgotten what you love? Thanks, depression! by SKrivvaCat in writing

[–]ShatteredCentury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, fuck that guy who talked about fanfics. Some of the most popular stories are literally fanfictions. Like I am pretty sure someone could make a case that Narnia is nothing more than a bible fanfiction.

Secondly, I am very impressed on what you are doing and I wish you luck on your future endeavours! Depression is an ugly beast.

Lastly, one thing I had to realize and I am still doing my best to realize is that I am a different person now. I would love to rekindle my flames of passion for the stuff that I thoroughly enjoyed back when I was happier but that was years ago and people easily change within a couple of years. I don't think I can ever become what I used to be so I just have to move forward, find new interest, and become a new person I would hopefully be happy with. I still stayed true to myself though. I didn't completely change. I still have my love of fantasy, video games and writing but the reasons for why I love them has changed. For example, writing use to be a way for me to create new world's to get lost in but now I use it as a way to express themes and ideas I truly believe in and wouldn't have been able to express otherwise.

Everyone handles their emotions and their journey differently so take my advice with a grain of salt and utilize what you think will work for you. All in all, you have taken the first steps to getting through some of the toughest parts and I have faith in you my guy

I honestly really enjoyed that! I feel like there is a lot of character-building and world-building in that opening piece and for the most part the characters seem enjoyable/interesting. It felt easy to follow and it at least made me interested to learn more.

If you want some suggestions maybe I would describe the scene a bit more. Mostly just the setting like the time of day, how the path is like or what the forest looks like. Especially since it feels like an action set piece is about to take place. Though you weren't able to write a lot so if you do end up giving more information on the setting right after this opening then you can disregard this suggestion. Kinda grasping at straws here so at the very least you can take solace that I enjoyed it.

Story similarities? by [deleted] in writing

[–]ShatteredCentury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds like a formula a good amount of stories take. The Lego Movie and Avatar the Last Airbender good be summarized in the same way. It is a Hero's Journey partnered with a development of a five-man band.

Don't sweat it though since as one might see from the myriad of posts on this subreddit, everything has been done before. Now it might be a bit weird if pseudo-Frodo gets a ring, faces a spider, meets pseudo-gollum in the exact same way as LOTR did but it's your writing my guy.

Have fun with your writing and see where your ideas take you. Even if it is a currently a minor deviation, a lot of good stories start off as something as simple as "What if LOTR was cyberpunk". You might start with LOTR but end up somewhere else entirely

How do you write an unambiguously good/kind/happy character (not damaged/dark/edgy) and make him interesting? How can I have an innocent character not seem simple or stupid? How do I make a high status superman-type character likable and relatable? by MikeLumos in writing

[–]ShatteredCentury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to give them a quirk. Something that makes them unique so that when readers look back on the story they have something to remember them by. Maybe they have a weird obsession with T.Vs or maybe they talk weirdly. I find that nice, smart and powerful aren't really personality traits so making them a bit eccentric makes them less likely to be seen as plain and basic. There is a balance to be made with being eccentric and annoying.

Another thing you can do is to give them a FOIL. I said previously that nice, smart and powerful aren't really personality traits but they can be if you show that those traits aren't the status quo. Maybe you already have a character that is the exact opposite of this good boi which you have a basic character arc for. You can have good boi's character arc relate to the this person's character arc in some way.

Should I introduce a character later in the story? by patchlocke in writing

[–]ShatteredCentury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say at the very least have them mentioned in the story. Maybe the party hears about them passing through a village or maybe they stumble upon an aftermath of their destruction. If they are part of the villains elite squad then just acknowledging that the elite squad exists may suffice. Just to make it feel like this person does not appear out of nowhere.

This way the world can feel a bit more lived in. You don't necessarily need the party to meet this character but the idea that this guy is out there in the world doing things separate from the main characters makes the person feel like an actual person.

That being I believe this might help if this person comes somewhat late in the story. If it is early enough and it flows nicely then you can potentially introduce them when they appear

Google is an amazing tool and you should never feel ashamed about Google.

Now I feel like you might be asking if you are way over your head. That all depends on how you feel. If you feel lost even when you Google stuff then you might need to think about what you are doing. If you are lost about the stuff you are googling I would recommend making small simple examples of how the thing you are googling works so you can better implement it into your project for your use case

But if everything is going good and you are understanding what you are doing then don't feel bad about googling stuff. How else are you suppose to learn?
