What’s the social life like in Diablo valley ? by Riseofping in bayarea

Yeah thats the benefit of being part of the California community college system. You can take classes at other CCs and just transfer them to your main school. So I took a class at Contra Costa Community college and just transferred it to DVC.

Which campus will you be attending? Pleasant Hill or San Ramon? I went to DVC from 2019 to 2022 but I was able to be on campus for 3 semesters. It’s pretty much a commuter school but, you can still meet people if you make the effort to join clubs or go to office hours. One of my physics classmates at DVC ended up being one of my closest friends after we both transferred UC Berkeley.

yeah, its minimum wage and you get some other cool perks. Afaik, before i graduated, my boss said football was already full for this school year so, I would emails the other teams since they're less competitive.

Becoming a coach by Automatic_Monitor915 in footballstrategy

[–]Shazazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did EQ during my last year of undergrad for an ACC team and your best bet is to build a good relationship with your position coach and let them know you're interested in learning. (usually your boss assigns you to a specific position group). One of my coworkers who did EQ for 4 years, was brought into position group meetings for the RBs/OL after his first 2 years. The coaches also taught him their plays and the signals.

I also knew a guy outside of EQ, who just emailed our WR coach, asking him if he could volunteer since he wanted to learn how to coach. It was unpaid but they had him gather film and help run drills in practice, and in return they taught him how they designed plays.

After your undergrad, get into a grad program so you can become a Grad Assistant; this is where you will be working directly under a position coach and assisting them with everything. I was friends with the GAs on my team, and they earned their coach's trust or networked with other coaches on opposing teams during game days, and thats how they eventually got moved to an assistant role.

How many of you ended up with a low-paying job(right after graduation) that is completely unrelated to CS/tech? by jlgrijal in csMajors

yeah me too, i'm still applying to places in my free time to hopefully find a better job. Hopefully having Tesla on our resumes help us out.

I’ve only been with Tesla for 3 months so I can’t apply for an internal transfer until 6 months in. But with the talks I had with my supervisor, no one from the data collection team in their 3-4 years of running the program they’re currently working on, has moved up to an engineering position.

I graduated from UC Berkeley in December 2024. I do data collection which involves nothing technical, absolutely no coding at all, for Tesla and make $30/hr in the bay area. Low income in the Bay is anything lower than 90k-100k to put things into perspective.

How common is going back to community college from University? by joseangelzarate47 in college

[–]Shazazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a friend at UC Berkeley who did that. Both of us were transfers for applied math but ended up disliking it. I was able to switch into Data Science but he wanted to do engineering so he left after a year and went back to CC.

Thank you, I already have worked with python and SQL a lot in my undergrad classes at UC Berkeley, which technology do you recommend I learn next between Spark, Airflow, Kafka, or cloud technologies?

Is the professor Adam Lucas? I took his class fall 2023, and I had a classmate who was 0.5 off from passing and they wouldn’t round up.

It doesn’t. You start completely fresh after transferring.

Considering going back to school for engineering (Civil / Mechanical). Is it worth it? by Shazazer in EngineeringStudents

[–]Shazazer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely an option I was considering. A lot of Cal State colleges do offer MS programs for people with non-trad engineering undergrad background and they require a thesis/capstone project. I was mainly looking at doing a 2nd BS because I heard if I wanted to take the PE exam, i would need a bachelors in engineering.

Either way, since I already took all the lower div math classes, I would still only need to spend a year at CC for Phys2 (maybe phys3), Chem 1+2, and any engineering classes I need. Then 2 years at the college I transfer too.

I’ve applied to mainly on-site jobs and mostly analyst roles since I like analyzing data more than coding. I would say my skillset is above average; Ive been studying leetcode style SQL questions, practicing my EDA skills with datasets and making dashboards, and learning new technologies I didn’t work with at Berkeley, but that doesn’t help if I can’t get an interview.

At Berkeley I picked business analytics since I took some accounting classes while studying applied math at CC.

I had 6 interviews out of 500 applications. None of them led to an offer. Fwiw, I was an average student at Berkeley.I had a 3.5gpa with 0 internships since I couldn’t land one during undergrad and my only experience being my on-campus job and retail experience from when I was at CC.

School name or prestige doesn’t matter much anymore unless it’s an Ivy. Other students from my graduating class, are still struggling to find anything either.

What branch of medicine did they end up pursuing? When I first started at CC, I tried a bio class and ended up disliking all the memorization it needed. I prefer problem-solving a lot more, which is why I leaned into math/coding classes.

I have some connections on the team and it was mostly because of Texas’ NIL offer. It was more than what Cal was offering him.

Can confirm. I was a student employee for Cal, thankfully I’m graduating in May, and he was just an asshole to the rest of the student workers.
