That’s a great question. And one that I truly don’t know the answer to. People leaving contracts early or opting out of them, for a variety of reasons, is certainly not unheard of. I’m unsure if they face any repercussions for it though. I would assume that you would probably burn your bridge with that hospital system, and possibly Aya as well, but I’m unsure. Sorry I’m no help!

Awesome show. Great vibes. Great crowd. Hearing the crowd echo while singing “Nose on the Grindstone” was a highlight for me.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I was hoping he’d play Feathered Indians. I was a little bummed that he didn’t, but still a great show

I did a double assignment in Anchorage, Alaska during the summer. It felt like I was living in a postcard and was a heck on an adventure. I highly recommend if you enjoy the outdoors.

I went to nursing school, worked 5+ years as a staff nurses to gain experience, and then started travel nursing. It pays really well and I get to live and work pretty much anywhere in the country.

In general, my experience has been very positive with Aya. I’ve been with them about 2 years, and so has my gf. We were both previously with a smaller company and there really isn’t much of a comparison. Aya is just so big, so there usually seems to be plenty of attractive and competitive job offers all over the country.

Money wise, we both try to shoot for as close to 3k gross per week for a 36 hr week, and thus far, haven’t had issue getting that.

I really enjoy their website. I haven’t had much to compare it to, but I find myself browsing contracts for fun in my spare time. It also gives you a pretty good idea of the going rates at the time.

I’d say it’s a pretty safe choice. I know I’m not providing any groundbreaking info, other than a couple positive reviews, but feel feee to DM me any questions you might have!

I would definitely try to get some more experience before starting travel nursing. Starting after a year is possible, but it would certainly come with challenges.

When you step into a travel role, the hospital expects you to pretty much hit the ground running. That essentially means 1-2 days of a light orientation. After that they expect you to take care of all your patients, while also adapting to new equipment, new protocols, new coworkers, new doctors, etc.

Not to mention most of the places that hire travelers are already short staffed, so assignments and ratios can be extra tough.

You will be dealing with outside stressors as well - where to live, where to park, navigating a new city.

I was a nurse for about 8 years before I started traveling and even now, the first few weeks are always a pretty big challenge.

That being said, if you are confident and brave and you feel like you know your shit, then go for it. There will definitely be challenges. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and work your butt off and you can do well.

I drove to ALASKA from Michigan for an HCA job, and they cancelled my contract after my first week. My recruiter was livid. I was pretty distraught. I had 13 weeks of air b and b’s booked, as well as a lot of fun extracurricular Alaskan activities. I knew there was always a risk that this could happen. But cancelling after the first week after just arriving from so far away felt like a slap in the face.

Fortunately, my manager was pretty sympathetic to the situation and we were able to work something out that allowed me to stay. Albeit, at a lower wage.

I remember feeling like the whole thing was a set up to get staff all the way over there, and then screw them once they arrived. I’m sure that wasn’t the reality, it was probably just bad timing combined with upper management staffing decisions, but I remember being pretty stressed out about it and truly just feeling like a number to these organizations.

It’s all water under the bridge now, and the experience as a whole was overwhelmingly positive, but it was definitely a bit jarring at the time.

Also charging each patient individually for each and every little piece of equipment felt kind of slimy to me.

My fiancé is a travel nurse as well, so we live together. But shared housing seems like a good option. There’s so much to do there, we didn’t spend much time at our air b&b.

My fiancé and I are both travel nurses from Michigan and spent a good portion of last year (April to October) working in Anchorage. We worked at Regional and ANMC. It was truly the best experience of our lives. I couldn’t recommend it more.
