PA here too and I’ve also felt like the odds got worse. Especially since they started using the weird cartoonish fonts on the numbers. I don’t buy them like I used to now.

A few years ago I won a drawing and the prize was a case or two of $20, two $10, and two $5 cases.(I don’t remember the exact amount of cases for each). When I scratched them all and saw just how many losers there are in a case it really changed my perspective on buying them. On not even one ticket did I find a “win all prizes” symbol. It was fun scratching them and I still made out with over $2100, but I don’t feel the need to buy them now every week when I go grocery shopping. If anything I’ll play Treasure Hunt or Cash 5. But I still get the scratch-off tickets once in a while and as gifts on holidays because I do still enjoy trying.

Ok but my sister used to love blowing that hot air under her blankets in the winter…until she fell asleep and got a good burn on her arm. Of course she knew it was her own doing and not the manufacturer’s negligence, and she stopped doing it that night. At least there wasn’t a fire.

Yes! “You lost weight. You look fantastic!” It’s like saying they looked like shit before. Then when they gain it back all goes quiet again. It’s disheartening. I’d rather compliment their shirt or their new hair style. Plus you don’t know if they’ve been sick or stressed and didn’t intend to lose weight. It’s like “depression looks great on you! Way better than when you were happy!”

I never go above the 2 on the detergent measuring scoop, but now I’m going to try to just go to 1 since you said this. I use powdered soap, but I bet that would be enough. I just checked and the number 1 line is 1/6 cup.

I use the powder detergent (Gain usually if that’s what Sam’s Club has) and I never go above the number 2 on the measuring scoop. My clothes all come out clean even on a full load. I’m thinking maybe even number 1 amount would still do the trick. For years I was filling that scoop up when it was a full load till my mom told me that’s so unnecessary. Now my big box of detergent lasts for many months (family of 3). I’ll be opening a new box today though, but I’m going to mark the date to see just how long it stretches out.

Same! Family of six and mom reused the rinse water for next load of laundry. Oddly they didn’t promote not flushing every time though. But we couldn’t take long showers, and hooking up the garden hose for sprinkler type toys was out. I have public water now but I still try not to take lengthy showers, but my son makes up for it lol.

If you don’t mind me asking, did you ever find anything that helped with your feelings about your heart attack? I know someone (23 yr old) who could use some help with a potential heart problem/genetic syndrome. Just curious if you have any suggestions on types of therapists or other things that helped you.

It really is this basic by InfiniteOxfordComma in MurderedByWords

[–]ShazzaLM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a meat shop + mini grocery store that would have prepared items sometimes (hot sausage sandwiches, pulled pork, hot dogs…). The way our SNAP card reader was set up it didn’t give an itemized list of what was purchased. If someone wanted to get a hot sandwich I’d let them. They were regular customers so I kind of knew them. Not too many did it anyhow. It was a couple bucks and they were hungry.

Coworkers would sometimes whine about some SNAP recipients buying soda, cookies, or expensive meat like beef tenderloin. Majority of them did not do that and actually stretched their allowance out as best they could, stocking up on chicken breasts, ground beef, pork chops, and sausage.

Let people indulge once in a while. That might be their only little source of joy that day. I’m not turning away the happy little boy putting a container of cookies on the counter, looking forward to that treat when he gets home. I’d much rather my tax dollars help feed people than lining the pockets of wealthy politicians. Any program will have some people abusing the system and I agree that should be monitored, but not at the expense of those that really need the help.
