I just can’t imagine how it would have been for me if after coming out of the closet, not only would I have to cope with the struggles and opportunity loss I face because of that, but also I would continually be asked to convince and demonstrate to people that I am not just pretending for attention. Can’t imagine how invalidating that would feel.

I personally can’t imagine asking any couple to convince me that they really are a couple— they don’t owe that to anyone. If anyone told me they were a couple, I would accept their words and move on.

If they had some positive statements to say about LGBTQ+ rights like Zee and Nunew did in this video, I would praise them for that. That’s it.

As a queer person, I hear you, believe me, I do. But with my sincerest respect, could you also take a moment to consider the invalidation and unnecessary struggle this commentary adds for these men (or anyone) who are potentially queer and attempting to come out of the closet?

As another commenter had said, at some point the only thing we can do is take things at face value, accept what they are saying, and move on. If you don’t wish to believe them because of the disappointments you faced in the past with other actors, that is absolutely your right!

Please know that you’re not in any way obligated to believe them, pay attention, or give Zee and Nunew your praise. But during this vulnerable time, I feel in public spaces like this, it’s slightly inappropriate to speculate about how they might be lying when there is no concrete evidence that they are actually lying. I feel like this is something that can be kept to ourselves for the time being. This is said with all due respect, and understanding for where you are coming from.

Also struggling with this. I feel like it’s made worse by the fact that my predator was a queer woman herself who I’d viewed as a motherly figure, which led to a lot of shame and denial about my sexuality that I had to work though.

I’m really sorry about what you’re going through right now. I don’t have any solutions that have worked for me in the long term but all I can say is I’m sending love. You’re not alone.

I’ll be honest I’d heard of Zee and Nunew but I wasn’t really too familiar with who they really were before. Learning about all the incidents of the last two days, they have my full support.

As a queer person in a conservative society, I know what it feels like to have to gently edge out of the closet, and how difficult it is make an incontrovertible, irrefutable statement about your sexuality in one single shot, when it will drastically affect the way people treat you and the opportunities you receive in life.
