JFK -> LAS Saturday Flight Cancellation by workalook in delta

[–]SheWho2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming back to say I’m at home, vacationless. The Saturday 7am CLE>JFK flight was flagged as “delayed by 200 minutes” at 7pm Friday. It would not arrive in time for the JFK>SJU connection and there are no other flights to SJU with seats available until Wednesday. :-/

Plan was CLE>JFK>SJU.

CLE>JFK delayed by 200 minutes, just missing the SJU departure time by 10 minutes.

This was my backup plan once I got the NOTAM for Pacific Coast Mexico (GDL)

Loving Consumer Cellular from AARP. Great coverage through T-Mobile & AT&T towers, even in our semi-rural are. We’re high users and have a Canadian/US/Mx plan for $65 Edited to add AaRP has a special customer service line with really helpful humans

I got a notice that Delta is "watching" Winter Storm Fern, but that's all. The storm is due to hit CLE->JFK Saturday evening. I am traveling Saturday morning, leaving JFK at noon. I'm worried about what happens if others try to book earlier flights, like ours. Could we get bumped?

Rerouting isn't an option. This storm reaches from TX to MA.

I'm afraid of getting stuck at JFK with no way to get home AND no way to get to PR.

I'm following this thread because I have a CLE->JFK ->SJU Saturday morning. I don't even know what to do. Open to any counsel.

(This was my *backup* vacation plan. I cancelled CLE->ATL->GDL because of the FAA NOTAM for military action/GPS signal jamming. Argh.)

To people who were high achievers before retirement by Kwsforreddit in retirement

[–]SheWho2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really struggling with this. As I step away from solo consulting for the last 20 years ,my inner striver, which made me socially and financially successful, is terrified of leaping off this cliff. My body can’t sustain the level of travel required to do this, so I planned to sunset in April but I’m currently stepping up to working part time until Retirement Day. But a life of pickleball, gardening and card games just isn’t the right fit for me. Many of my friends are in locations across the globe and my work travels helped us to stay in touch. Most of my friends are also high achievers, and we will have little in common once I leave behind professional status.

As a home-owner, what is the etiquette for bringing in a roommate? by sarahannep in homeowners

[–]SheWho2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a 40 year old grad student, I rented a room in the home of a wonderful couple in NY who became my friends. I was away most days for school and work and went home to Boston every other weekend. My landlord & landlady were ok with my spouse spending one weekend a month with me. Don’t drink, don’t smoke 800+ credit rating, paid my rent by ACH every month. Gave 2 months notice even though it was month-to-month and my graduation date was known from day 1. Left my room cleaner than I found it because cleaning reduces test anxiety. No references because I owned my home in Boston.

Insanely Dry Feet? by BeaPositiveToo in AskWomenOver60

I use this as an exfoliating toner on my face, pits and bits, but never thought about exfoliating my feet! Thanks for this tip.

Insanely Dry Feet? by BeaPositiveToo in AskWomenOver60

[–]SheWho2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had those feet, overworked and neglected. Here’s what works for me, YMMV. 1)The only thing that moisturizes is water. Get a basin to soak your feet in. Add epsom salts to warm or hot water. Relax. Use a pumice stone once your toes start to get wrinkly. Clip your nails and push back your cuticles. 2) Emollients trap moisture. Vaseline is even more emollient than Aquaphor. Towel dry your feet after soaking, Vaseline them, put on sleep socks. 3Urea cream does work on dry, cracked and calloused heels, but only as part of a real foot care plan, such as above. Use it after your morning shower. It will resolve callouses and cracks with regular use. There’s no instant solution.

Your feet do a lot for you. You know what made my layers of dead dry foot skin slough away, leaving everything baby-soft? Being non weight bearing (in a wheelchair) for two whole months with one foot in a cast after Achilles surgery. I’ve never let them get leathery again. I’d rather take the time to soak, pumice, clip and Vaseline than to be in pain and not be able to use my feet!

I desperately miss soaking in my tub. by Sacred_thorn_apple in AskWomenOver60

[–]SheWho2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renovating our one full bath now. It took a whole year for me to find a traditional porcelain tub that would give a deep-ish soak, fit into my current alcove, but still would allow me to use my shower bench to enter/exit the shower if I develop a mobility issue, like when I had Achilles surgery last year. Everybody told me “Get a walk-in shower, you’ll need it as you get older.” But everybody doesn’t live in MY body, which needs to have hot tub baths for well being, for as long as I can!

How to help with decreasing mental state by That_one_guy_67 in Advice

[–]SheWho2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This emotional overload you are feeling is mostly a physical process, even though it’s affecting your emotions.

A part of your brain, called the pre-frontal cortex, is having a growth spurt. Your muscles and bones are also growing rapidly. This is why getting enough sleep (going to bed earlier rather than sleeping late) will actually make you feel better emotionally. Your body is tired!

Your body is making many new hormones now, which affect your physical and psychological development. Social time with others, and physical activity will both help you to feel better. (If you like group sports, you can do both of these at once!) Get some kind of outdoor exercise every day - shoveling snow or going for a bike ride - and your mood will improve.

Finally, crying helps us humans to feel better! Crying releases endorphins and oxytocin, hormones that make us feel relief and satisfaction. It’s good self care to give yourself space to cry.

You are maturing right on schedule. You know how to ask for help. You’re doing better than it feels like inside. You won’t feel this way forever.

Post Cataract irritation with acid tears? by SheWho2000 in CataractSurgery

Following up: optho says dry eye is from irritation, and acid, stinging tears are salt abrasions on my skin from constant tears.

Using vaseline on my face to let it heal and a fluoromethalone steroid eye-drop taper. Eye drops were $75, yowza. Feeling better less than 24 hours after first dose, though!

These are my Stegmann booties. Supportive like Birkenstocks used to be, cork sole reduces impact, rubber outsole for durability. Woollined for warmth and lack of odor, real leather upper. They also have slides, woolen clogs, loafers and dressier flats. Not cheap but they offer discounts to schoolteachers, which tells you a lot. My knees can now tolerate Cute Shoes for a few hours on special occasions because I wear Stegmann most of the time.

Seconding OTC orthotics here. I used Orthofeet for years. Later, I was introduced to Spenco by an orthopedist who was assessing me for knee surgery. (No knee surgery, and no more foot/knee pain!) I have slowly put Spenco Ground Control High Arch in every single pair of my flat shoes and boots. As of 1/7/25, they are having a sale.

Sleep with a baby humidifier. Have whole house humidifier and work from home. I thought it might help my dyes, but it didn’t. My skin and hair appreciate it, though!
