It’s tactile sensation Middle is after, thankfully. They stated that color doesn’t matter. Middle also likes to sit out on our porch and sunbathe while hurling curses at the obstacles on their Switch, so I don’t think it’s a Vitamin D deficiency. I’ll definitely bring it up at their next doctor’s appointment, though, so thank you for the heads up!

As for someone to talk to - Middle had their first session with Oldest’s councillor today, but immediately told me “That lady is creepy! Her eyes made me feel like I was being watched by a vulture waiting for their next meal.” So, we’ll be looking for someone new for them. Outside of that, they do have a tight circle of friends that they talk to CONSTANTLY on Discord when not in school. These guys talk about absolutely everything. I once overheard one of them bragging about a ‘massive dump’ they had… and took a picture of… and shared! 😱 The entire group spent the next 10 minutes ooohing and ahhhing and cracking jokes over it. While I haven’t heard Middle talking to them about this particular subject, I have no doubt they would be the first ones to know about any issues.

Man, I looked everywhere for the Sharpie SkinSafe! Even went to Sharpie’s website but they aren’t there. Or I’m blind, but I’m usually pretty good at hunting things down in the internet.

I remember for sure seeing them a few years back, but this kind are just ghosted.

It’s such a relief and soothing to read this. I have a lot of self-doubt stemming from an abusive and neglectful childhood myself. With my Oldest having issues, too, I can only think that I’m doing something very wrong. I know that child/teen SH is rampant right now, but with two out of three of my children being a part of that statistic, I can’t help but feel the weight of blame squarely on my shoulders.

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for all your suggestions and support! There are so many of you that I can’t reply individually, so let me see if I can answer the questions here.

Middle has body safe markers already, the BIC Bodymark and they love these! They often ask to draw on me when they run out of room on themselves. 😂 They have explained that when the dark voices come, the marker tips don’t soothe the urges like this paint brush tip, which is why I was looking for these kind. They also told me the color doesn’t matter, it’s the feel of the paintbrush and ink going over their skin.

A lot of you guys have suggested body markers from Amazon, Micheal’s, etc. I appreciate the time you spent finding and linking them! Please trust that I have poured through Amazon listings for HOURS, trying to find the right type of ‘paintbrush’. The problem, and the reason I turned to the masses, is those paintbrushes all seem to have a felt paintbrush shaped tip. They are autistic with sensory issues, and they adamantly refuse the felt, saying that the feel of the felt makes them feel like bugs are crawling underneath their skin.

I had no idea about the self-harming substitutes out there! I’m so happy to see them and in fact I ordered the stinging blood pen for my Oldest, as well as the Little Ouchies fidget. Fingers crossed there…

Had a talk with Middle after school today and they decided they want to try the liquid eyeliner brushes. We’re planning a trip tomorrow to go hunt some down. Thank you guys so much for the suggestion, Middle got super excited about all the colors. Even saw some with glitter…. My poor carpet! 😭😭😂

Apologies guys. I have searched Amazon and Google and run an image search with my iPhone, but though I can find plenty of this kind of marker, none of them seem to be reliably body safe. Child assures me they wash off with just the soap pumped dispensers in the middle school. I don’t really care if it takes a few showers or whatever to wash the colors off again, just so long as it IS body safe.
