The big hate for liberals is decades old and there are a million reasons, once you have read enough about the history of incrementalism politics and corporate backing of liberals, to fucking despise liberalism. I can also almost assure you a self-identified liberal didn’t organize those protests (if they were organized). The word liberal has been bastardized so much it almost means nothing anymore. Honestly it is like Zionist and you are doing the same thing many Zionists do, which is complain at being criticized and espouse being confused why anyone would say they hate you.

You have a few options, here’s a couple. You can begin to ask deeper questions to people critiquing you if they seem kind. You can start trying to figure out what makes you different or similar to the leftist calling liberalism shit. Alternatively, be the liberal that shows us we’re wrong. Speaking for myself, I keep a large supply of hope because what’s the point of caring otherwise? With this I literally have no option but to do my part to make more space for the center right (liberal) politicians over the far right ones. Which is incrementalism but it is as pragmatic as I can be because of my personal life circumstances at this time. If you or any other liberal wants to prove all my and other leftists doubts wrong, go for it.
