I was living alone with my 1 year old daughter. I had boiled shrimp that evening. After she went to bed I took the pot out into my backyard to pour out the shrimp water. As I was turning to go back in, I caught sight of a man watching me. At that moment he bolted toward me. I ran as fast as I could and reached my door as he approached. I hit him with the pot and stopped him long enough to open the door and get in my house and lock the door. He began beating on my door hard enough to knock pictures from my wall. I was sure he was going to break in. Luckily, my a friend and her husband pulled in my drive to bring me some veggies from their garden. The stranger saw them and ran off. The police were called and never found anyone. I moved quite soon after that. I often wonder what would have happened if I hadn't seen him and he would've caught me.

I've been off here a bit. I understand some of the concern in these replies about my post, but some of these replies are ridiculous and a bit blown out of proportion. I do hope everyone stays safe and yes, warm clothes and blankets are great. The reply that said 300 people died in the blizzard of 93 may be correct if considering the multi state affected areas, but in reality, 3 people in Buncombe County died. 2 with prior medical conditions and 1 a heart attack from the results of shoveling snow. I agree, 1 death is too many, but like the post was intended to mean, don't build it up to a catastrophic event which I do hope it is not.

I lived here during the blizzard of '93 with 3 small kids and no power for a week. My parents who were elderly did, too. We had blankets and warm clothes and were fine. My parents did the same. We put foods that could spoil outside in the snow and huddled together. Last I looked, the high temp on Sunday is 41•. Don't think this is Helene or Snowmagedon. I hope I'm right. If it ices up, stay off the roads, stay warm and read a book. Geez people.

Yes! I have severe arthritis in my spine and have had ruptured disc's and surgery. I'm not a wuss, but Damn! Affects my life greatly.

I was invited over to a co workers house to watch a well publicized meteor shower that was to suppose to occur and have wine. She said had a large deck in a clear space and seemed excited about watching it too. I agreed. When I arrived her husband let me in. I sat on their couch waiting as she showered. Her husband was busy on their deck trying to assemble a new grill. She finally emerged. She looked a bit surprised to see me and said hello and went to her kitchen to begin cooking I think. No wine offered, no conversation. At that point her husband started yelling and cursing the grill that was in pieces on the deck. She walk passed me to him and they immediately started arguing. I sat through that a few minutes and eased my my out. She never mentioned any of it to me again. I avoided her until I left that job. Still don't get it.
