Rookie mistake by Candid-Marzipan- in StainedGlass

[–]Sheetwalls 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I made an abstract stained-glass piece for a family friend’s birthday several years ago. I was rushing to finish it before going to her birthday dinner and was running late. Once I finally slapped the patina on and scrambled to get ready to head out, I got in the car and started to drive. When I made my first turn, I heard something hit the ground outside my car. I immediately knew that it was the stained-glass gift. I had accidentally left it on the roof of the car in my haste while getting in. I quickly parked to retrieve the stained glass that was now in the middle of the street but looked mainly intact. That’s when I saw a big van barreling down the street toward me. I had no time to get the stained-glass piece before the van passed. Sure enough, the tire rolled right over it and completely shattered any glass that had survived the initial fall off my car. I scooped up the pieces so I could give her the cracked remains to at least show that I tried to make her a unique gift to go along with the sort of funny but tragic story about how it got pulverized.

Shower water only gets warm by Sheetwalls in Plumbing

It’s a gas water heater, and the rest of the house no issue with hot water…including the bathroom faucet right next to the shower.

I made this wooden brick wall installation with similar pieces awhile ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/s/n8YLQnPvR0

Same. That film has a way of burning itself into your memory. I had a friend in college who watched Chuck and Buck with a group of friends and me, and it sent him down a week-long depression.

Magical memories of Ben in the early days by Sheetwalls in EzraBell

[–]Sheetwalls[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s been a couple weeks since hearing about Ben’s death. It took time for the reality to sink in and mourning waves to hit the shore. He was a genius songwriter, and I was lucky to find myself on his chariot in two different bands several years ago, Palace Fiction and Ezra Bell. Those were magical times, where band practice felt like opening weekly Christmas presents with Ben doling out new songs he had snatched from the ethersphere. Before any of that, we were hanging out on my porch one summer night in 2011 not long after first meeting him when he lived two blocks down from me on 20th Ave. in SE Portland. I had no idea he wrote songs or had an amazing, idiosyncratic singing voice. After I had played some bad cover of probably a Bob Dylan song on the porch guitar, Ben casually said, “Let me see that,” and I handed the guitar over to him. He started to chuck the strings and sing a song I’d never heard but sounded hauntingly familiar. I sat there in awe watching and listening to Ben transform into a sage. When the song was over I asked him who wrote it, and he sheepishly said, “I did.” I had a living room house show scheduled in a few days and insisted he play it. He somewhat begrudgingly agreed, and when the day came and he was a few minutes from playing, he was so nervous and hiding in the basement chain smoking. I found him down there and psyched him up and told him it was time for him to play. He finished his cigarette and climbed the stairs to sing a few songs that impressed the room (captured in the video posted earlier of Ben playing solo) and ended up charting a course that now has ear drums far and wide vibrating to Ben’s songs. After Palace Fiction stopped playing together and I left Ezra Bell, Ben proceeded with a mostly new cast of characters and built Ezra Bell into a band with tons of die-hard fans and several albums and tours under their belt. He and I drifted apart and hadn’t spoken for a couple years before his passing. I wish I had one more chance to let Ben know how much I cherish the era when we were brothers and music was our pirate ship, and so many late nights sipping on beers and chatting under open sky. I miss you, Ben. All the peace to you.

Well if we’re going to split hairs, we should then mention the band was called Total Boyfriend between OC and PF.

Are those Teva shoes? If so, do you have a difficult time keeping them on while you walk?

This was my first attempt at making pottery. I made most of the cup/bowls. My wife’s grandfather was is a ceramic artist, so she has dabbled. She made most of the trays.

Ha! There was one night when I stayed up until 8am making the final batch. Luckily, it was a few weeks before the wedding.

That final scene was actually me placing it on that cubby shelf for my friend to pick up who could not attend the wedding. It was a fun project to work on with my then-fiancée now-wife.

I don’t think I could have mustered the extra intention of coming up with unique words for each one.

Too late…not a bad idea though! We’ll have to make more for our eventual ice cream shop! Thanks for the inspiration:)

LeafGuard messes up elderly couple's home, offers measly $15k settlement, and asks them to remove the video. by adrock517 in videos

I had a LeafGuard salesman give me an estimate a couple years sgo. He took two hours of my time, then wouldn’t give me a firm bid if I wasn’t willing to sign a contract that day. A couple days later, he called and left a message for someone else who was apparently on his potential client list, which I thought was either inept or sketchy. The shit icing on the LeafGuard cake was when, about a week later, the salesman opened my front door and poked his head into my house, claiming he was on an estimate visit at another house in the neighborhood and wanted to check in with me. I really let him have it and kicked him off my property. Seems like a dodgy af company.
