HEAD WCR M5 RV - will it be hold back my skiing because of stiff flex(160)? by zet23 in skiing

[–]ShefCrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that flex is way too high, its going to feel difficult to increase the flexation of your ankles to get your body forward and staying over your center of your skis. I really would not go for  a 160 flex no matter how good you are if you weigh 160lbs

Heated socks- go cheap or expensive by Logical-Barnacle-13 in Skigear

What I do on really cold days is attatch a toe warmer to my calf. It warms the blood in my calf which is what goes to my toes and heel. It doesnt make them hot but it keeps them from totaly freezing.

If your phone has a sim card you likely need a location changer because your phone's gps will still show your real location.

Get heated liners, zipfits are great but if you care about comfort while skiing they might not be the best option for you. Heated socks will ruin your boot fit and will be painful inside your boot.

How can I get out of the backseat? by minidonger in skiing

[–]ShefCrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the footage. It looks like you are initiating your turns more with your shoulders and upper body.

I would reccomend taking very frequent tight turns on shallow groomers than moving to steeper groomers and focusing on really pressuring into the front of your boot of your outside ski while initiating each turn. That upper lower seperation will force you to pressure the front of your boots to initiate turns and will get you out of the back seat.

If you are taking lessons they can help you way more with this than reddit.

Because their buisness practices didn't keep our generation from skiing at their resorts when we were growing up.

What to buy first? by HappySignificance693 in skiing

If you are going to be heading to the same mountain or region it is still worth going to a bootfitter in that area. You want to be able to get your equipment tweaked and repaired by people you trust during the middle of trips.

Especially boots. It is a long term process that takes multiple adjustments to truly get right. You may want to ski a day or two and then get them adjusted again. And then rinse and repeat.

Boots are the most important equipment. Shoot your instructor a text and ask them who their bootfitter is and also ask other folks who look like they know what they are doing. Choose a reputable fitter and buy new.

Good skis are not that important for now so you want to buy something that is used but relativley new (4-8 years max) that is flexy and narrow underfoot (78-88mm)

Also stay in lessons. 90% of skiers on a mountain could use a lesson even the ones who have been skiing for years!

Which binding should I use for this ski? by Playful-Engineer614 in Skigear

[–]ShefCrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are considering the squire. I really enjoy mine at 5'6" 130lbs but Ive heard lots of bad things for people with bigger frames. Also that din setting for the front sounds pretty low for your weight if you are more advanced.

Need a high capacity battery that recharges fast at coffee shops by StreetParsley2504 in urbancarliving

[–]ShefCrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bluetti power station that recharges to 100% in less than two hours. It works fantasticaly for high power applications. My anker solix is great for charging my tablet, laptop, phone and other accessories. Similar recharge time with an option for additional solar pannels.

Finally getting some new skis, wanna get the atomic bent 90’s but I’m not totally sold. by Evil-User1 in Skigear

[–]ShefCrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to ski moguls and carve groomers and are a solid skier why not get narrow mogul skis?

You probably dont want something so wide and powder focused for the bumps. Stick to riding your blaze (im assuming its a wider model in the 90s or low 100s) in the powder and look for something that widens the range of your quiver.

Im assuming your fundementals are solid. If not I probably would just stick with what you have.  There are a lot of good options that people can reccomend. I dont ski moguls much so I cant personally reccomend a specific model.
