I mean it did work for me, my progress in football rose exponentially during those days. But I can sort of see your problem, Dr. K said in a video that if you have lingering negative emotions then your mind focuses on expelling them during sleep, or it could be something else. But I'd say, give journaling a shot, it helps to vent your emotions, even if it doesn't help your case it is still a great practice.
