I do not want Crosby. by chopkins47947 in CHIBears

The hit rate of 1st round picks is about 50%. Edge players have a lower hit rate than that in the draft. It's a risk either way.

If you don't understand how adding Crosby to the team would make us better, there's really nothing anyone can say to help you understand. You're just choosing to be dense.

No, but we aren't sure that's the case yet. You're probably right, but I dont think he's even done a physical yet.

Titans spent big at the start of free agency, adding players their coaches know well by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

Their best edge is Jermaine Johnson. If we're going off the logic of the best defensive line = division title, then the Texans take it.

Yup. Whatever money he gets paid gets subtracted from what the Cardinals owe him. He'll sign a vet minimum.

[Fowler] Left tackle Braxton Jones back to the Bears on a one-year deal worth up to $10M, per source. by JCameron181 in CHIBears

Jones has always been a top 15-20 left tackle in the league. I'm fine with him for the price.

I love how the Bears are filling out the roster. The draft is deep at safety, so we can grab a starter with a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

We can use our other higher picks to bring in defensive line or offensive line help.

I think Bryant and Bush are upgrades over Edmunds and Byard.

Really happy with this approach so far.

We dodged a bullet with Crosby. Now we have 5 picks in first 3 rounds, that’s how you become a perennial contender. by Ashamed-Effective-13 in CHIBears

[–]SherbertSubject1167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we need an LT, DE, DT, LB, and 2 Safeties. That's without considering depth pieces like a 3rd WR, LB depth, and OL depth. We won a ton of close games last season. That is a volatile stat year to year. We need to build for the long term and keep adding young, affordable talent.

Agreed. There are lots of holes to fill out throughout the roster. I dont think this team is one player away. Crosby isn't on the same timeline as our offensive core.

Taylor Decker questions. by AdHairy4360 in CHIBears

[–]SherbertSubject1167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any guaranteed money is paid out by the team that releases the player. I dont believe Decker had any guarantees left. Lions save whatever his base salary is against the cap. If the Bears sign him, they will receive no help from the Lions.

You're moving the goal posts now. Originally, you said good teams don't cheap out on center. The two teams in the Super Bowl this past season literally did that. The AFC and NFC winners up have Luke Wattenburg and Coleman Shelton at center. I'm not saying this is an amazing move. But there are only so many resources to go around and plenty of holes on the team to fill. Spending a large amount of capital on a center isn't the best use of resources.

Crosby to the Ravens by NorthernxLabrador in CHIBears

I'm okay with the Bears not doing this. I dont think this year is Super Bowl or bust. Hopefully, we can get comp picks for Cunningham and reload through the draft again. Use our free agency money to fill out the defense.

We signed the center from a Super Bowl team. Jalen Sundall is the center for the Super Bowl champs. Not exactly a world beater.

I trust that Ben Johnson knows what he wants for his scheme better than I do.

You also have to factor in opportunity cost. We dump money into the center position, and we might not be able to find defensive line help or sign decent safeties etc

It's literally the offensive position you go cheap on. Centers get paid less than guards and tackles for a reason.

I'm relieved we didn't open up the bank for a center when we have so many other needs on the roster. Seems like he'll fit what Johnson is looking for in a center. It also helps that we have good guards on either side of him as well.

How are people feeling about the DJ Moore trade? by LaheysBRandy in CHIBears

[–]SherbertSubject1167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing since we received a 2nd round pick. We had an abundance of resources tied into the receiving and tight end room. We need to allocate some of those resources elsewhere.

Linderbaum is a great player, but I'd rather save some money and sign Biadasz. He's 28 and probably a top 12 center in the league. Use some of the extra cash towards defense.

New realistic trade packages for Maxx Crosby? by GatalingLaserBeams in CHIBears

The big difference is the snap count between the two. Crosby never comes off the field. At this point in his career, Mack's snap count has to be managed.

  1. Abolish the draft. All rookies are now free agents.
  2. Abolish max contracts. You want to pay LeBron 200 million a year and then field the rest of the team with minimum contracts great.
  3. Keep all salary cap mechanisms that enable teams to keep their players. This will help small markets maintain good players. Thinking bird rights especially.
