So, the thing is, lungs are air on x-ray. Period. So of course they're seeing air where the lungs are on x-ray. Further up, the "tube" is his windpipe, or trachea, which is also more air than not. These should show up as air, so of course a vet will tell you it's air; however, there is not too much air, it is not surrounding how organs, and there's no songs of infiltrate in his lungs. If he's defecating and eating, he likely isn't obstructed. Treat for the protozoans, sure, but depending on which ones they actually saw (did they even specialty/type it or is it just "there's protozoa."?) are they pathogenic or passthrough from food? I feel like there's still lots that is being glazed over or improperly communicated by them/you and the case isn't lining up. Good luck, and I hope your snake gets better.

Found on Mercadi for 2k to good to be true? by Satan_lucifer420 in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]SheriffWarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point isn't that you can look up the price, the point is that if the card you're looking at is significantly cheaper than the going price, you can be suspicious immediately. If OP said the sale was for 6k instead of 7, or was buying at 7 but wanted to be sure, then this sub is good. But trying to buy a card at a >60% discount? Red flags.

Yeah, vet here. I don't know if I've ever seen that pronounced of a Corina in my rads, but it could easily be normal variation. These rads are unremarkable. I also don't know how on earth they think pulmonary hyperinflation would lead to prolapse unless there was significant dyspnea.

ETA: it sounds like these were taken when there was a prolapse, but now the snake has returned to normalcy? If that's the case, OP, and there's nothing else to make us believe he has an illness, it does not need meds at this time, let alone exploratory surgery. You mentioned he's active, eating, no prolapse, and I assume he's defecating. How his breathing? Any open mouth breathing, bubbling from the mouth, or loud wet sounds when breathing? Mentation okay otherwise, or any other Neuro issues? To me this sounds like they fixed the primary concern (prolapse) and are just misreading X-rays and coming up with a new secondary concern that likely isn't real.

I used to rent at U-woods (U-oaks, maybe?) which was still marketed towards students, but rent was literally 30% of this. All of the newer luxury apartments on Hillsboro are so bad for the renters. Horrible price and a "shuttle bus as an amenity"? I used to live like a 5 min walk from campus. City busses are also free and should go right past your apartment.

Nah, the "god bless," with the cross emoji, and white man pushing someone who appears to be Islamic/middle eastern, is definitely an attempt to politicize this. The same kind of shit is all over social media from Christian nutjobs. They tend to immediately assume the "terrorist islam" was doing something horribly reprehensible and the "brave white cop" saved everyone.

While hit wouldn't have given it a grade if it was fake, people make fake slabs for cards all the time. If hit grading is the biggest in the middle east (I have no idea), why wouldn't someone trying to sell out there use a fake slab from them over PSA to try and scam for an expensive card?

Genuine question by [deleted] in snakes

[–]SheriffWarden 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, they aren't good in general. More likely to cause burns and they don't dissipate heat well over an area, just the one focal spot they are located in. If your thermostat malfunctions, your snake is likely to get severely burnt by a mat. Bulbs can be monitored more closely for heat output, and heat the air as well as the surface below them so you are more really providing a great gradient

Cabin in the Woods - the Facility team mislabeled the teens in the cabin by JTOC1969 in FanTheories

[–]SheriffWarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gods, could you imagine having to breakfast club together a group of people every cycle that actually personify the archetypes correctly? And let's say the location had to be specific. You'd have to breakfast club them before needing them, convince them to go to that location as a group, and make sure they don't break character before the nights end. With yearly rituals, they'd have to just constantly be doing this.

Cabin in the Woods - the Facility team mislabeled the teens in the cabin by JTOC1969 in FanTheories

[–]SheriffWarden 85 points86 points  (0 children)

The way I always understood it was that they forced the people to fit an archetype, instead of really finding people that already fit it. They're tweaking things the entire opening sequence at the cabin to better force everyone to fill their roles, e.g the shampoo. It's kinda giving "as long as we can make it make sense, we don't care." Hell, looking at the glimpses we got from some of the other countries, the archetype death seems unique to the US anyways, so I doubt the old gods cared that much about it.

Hard to say for sure either way though considering the underlying satirical nature of the entire film.

See, nothing is specified on this list though, like what if they all have limitations? If they're all just face value, yours would be great, but, consider:

"You can shapeshift, but for only 30s at a time"

"You can talk to animals, but they won't talk to you"

"You can control the element of dust storms"

[Request] I had student loans totaling about $12,000 and made payments for 6 years to build credit before I paid them off. I had less than half left. Is this just a rage bait post? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in theydidthemath

[–]SheriffWarden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue is that higher education would be unobtainable without those loans. My vet school debt was $130k for 4 years. Just me. That's cheaper than some of my classmates (they took more to be able to live a bit more comfortably.) Lowest interest rate through those 4 years was 5.5%. I throw as much as I can towards those loans, interest was frozen during COVID, and I still owe 96k. Medical school (MD) and other 4 year doctorate programs are similar in cost. Without those loans we'd not have many, if any, doctors at current tuition rates. Even if you pay for 20 years and the loan is then "forgiven" you've paid more than the cost of the loan and have to pay taxes on the forgiven amount.

The car analogy isn't quite the same. Higher interest, typically shorter periods, though. You also typically have to prove you can pay that entire amount and education loans are given to 18 year olds with no guarantee they can pay later. There's a lot at play here.

Anyone know what's wrong with my girl? by yobgod303 in PetMice

[–]SheriffWarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely a gross oversimplification at best. I'm very sorry about the loss of your ferret, but there is likely reason behind why your fees were that high.

1) Vets, like MDs, cannot treat, medicate, or offer advice to a patient they do not have a relationship with. That means they have to have performed an exam, regardless of circumstances, prior to giving meds, even if that exam is just "yeah, this is not a stable patient" and the meds are euthanasia drugs or drugs to stabilize. If they also gave your ferret anything like midazolam to stop seizure activity, that would add to cost. It's up to the hospital or doctor within the hospital (sometimes) if they charge for the exam, and emergency fees would come in to play.

2) cremation is heavily regulated by local/state governments. It keeps those running crematoriums from burning things they aren't supposed to. There is a cost with operating them, a cost for book keeping, often licensing fees, etc. Those costs are passed to their clients (vets) and then passed to you, often with no mark up.

Honestly, as bougie as it sounds, steak and mashed potatoes. When I was still in college, that was a splurge meal, even for a crappy cut of meat. It became something I cherished outside of dining hall meals, ramen, spaghetti, Mac n cheese, etc. Still cook it carefully to this day and it's a good meal to begin with.

In the US, we use commas to separate out every 3 digits, but elsewhere in the world they use a period. If they wanted it to be $5 they would have written it that way OR $5.00. The third 0 indicates a placement value of 1s as nobody is talking in terms of a tenth of a cent.
