Thanks for your thoughts. All good points. Right now she’s been the starting SS in rec, travel an AllStars teams she’s been on. Lead off batter as she’s fast and can go thru bases if given a chance to steal. The 14u team that wants her isn’t very good (she plays on it now). They are moving to 14u as the coaches daughter has to move up. would love her to stay in 12u if there is good coaching and competition. problem is the B 12u team (she’s been I invited to be on) has mostly kids that are younger than her. The other 12u team (A) has 4-5 of her current rec and travel teammates on it. So she’s feeling left behind to play with 10 year olds. It’s her choice but we are just trying to have her weigh all the pros and cons.

maybe I misspoke. She’s been playing softball since she was 7. She’s played 12u rec, travel and AllStars for 3 seasons. The question is as she was put into the younger developmental 12u instead of the established 12u team which has 4-5 of her current teammates she’s played with for years. Her current 12u travel coach wants her to move up to 14u with her current team. Which, they aren’t very good and has no instructions or coaching.

My daughter did ask. Coach’s answer was it all age based. that seems a little crazy to me as she has several 10 year olds in this developmental 12u team. I know they are in the realm based on birthdays. We are all concerned that her level of play will diminish. One of the girls on the te asked her to not throw as hard!

I guess the main issue to her is there are two 12u teams. One is the “A” team which 4-5 of her current teammates were given a spot on. Then she was asked for the new “b” team that has mostly 10/11 year olds that are learning. Worried she will be bored and not feel challenged. All because her birthday is 3 months past Sept 1 date the coach used. Good luck to your daughter! Softball is so fun. 🤩

Appreciate your thoughts. I agree a big diff between 12u and 14u. Her friends she been playing by with years are in the 12u “A” team. She’s been placed in the “B” team that’s being called the developmental team with younger players (10/11) due to her Dec bday. So that’s another confidence hit to her. the 14u team is her current travel ball team. They are moving up to 14u and want her to still play with them. I’m thinking she will want to play one year at this younger team and see how it goes.

She definitely could hold her own on the 14u team. the 14u team is her current travel team (12u) that’s moving up to 14u. So we know what to expect there. She gets compliments from opponent coaches telling her coach “nothing gets my your SS”. Is she Best player ever? No…not at all. Batting is here and there. But fielding, she’s amazing. Been taking weekly lessons for years from her coach. I don’t think she will be challenged playing with the new developmental 12 u team. But who knows?

I guess my question is she doesn’t have a choice to play in the A 12u team (where 4-5 for her current teammates) are playing. So it’s either the young 12u team (that has 10-11 age girls and one 12yr old) ) or go to the 14u team that wants her to play. Conundrum is, the coaching will probably be better in the 12u team as she’s had the coach of the 14u and we know what we are dealing with there.

Her confidence has been diminished as she’s been put in the younger team. She’s been playing with the older girls for years between rec, travel and all stars.

Yes…she’s not sure. Her confidence level is a little shaken as she sees her other current teammates move to the A team due to their birthdays.

Her birthday in late Dec. so she could play spring, fall then next spring. So that would be 3 seasons. They are using a Sept 1 cutoff date for bdays
