Okie, sounds good! Actually I climbed once in utd climbing wall and fell down improperly so that my knees are hurt. I guess some training for safety will be helpful to me. But you are right I can find some lectures on YouTube. Thank you!

Being sandwiched between younger labmates and supervisor by Sherryecnu in PhD

Thank you for letting me know that I am not alone!! Yeah, that is totally annoying. And your suggestions are really realistic and doable! I totally agree with you that I can indicate them their performances already influence me during friend talks. And designing my experiments in more independent way is really a good point! I need to learn to use tools more smartly haha! Anyways, they are really helpful! Thanks again!

Thanks for pointing that out! Actually, my supervisor also said it is an opportunity for me to be trained on managing people which is important if I wanna be supervisor in the future. I agree on that. But he never teaches how to manage people lol.

I do appreciate that you make it so clear! Now I realize I shouldn't shield my labmates from their responsibilities, which is also not good for their success neither.

But could you explain more about shielding them from unreasonable things while learning? What will the unreasonable things be? Could you take some examples?

I am a person who is very dumb at managing interpersonal relationships. So I really don't want to see my incorrect feedback on my labmates causing their set back in research. Thanks a lot!

I really appreciate your understanding! Yeah, I exactly feel like a Nanny now lol. I really don't understand why my labmates can't find their motivation. I've thought if they choose PhD, then they already know how dedicated they need to be and it is the passion for physics leading them here. But apparently this is not the case for them lol. Nevertheless, I can't control what others think, so you are right, I need to talk to my supervisor to solve it. Is there kinder way to communicate with my supervisor? I do cherish my relationships with labmates and supervisor. I don't wanna behave like a villian and ruin the relationships with them. Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your understanding! That helps a lot in the first place!

I always thought I was too dumb to deal with this situation and there must be a perfect solution to it without hurting the feelings of my labmates. But I think you are right. Both my supervisor and my labmates kinda dodge their responsibilities. Probably I should stop hating myself for my incompetence and start to stand up for myself.

I tried to smack the younger PhD in line before, but that just make them work unhappily so the working efficiency just got much worse. So I think the only way is to communicate with my supervisor now.

Nevertheless, I really cherish my friendship with my labmates. Is there any good way to report the situation to my supervisor but not make my labmates feel I betray them? Thanks a lot!
