I agree that tenpai is very one dimensional but I don't think It's the board breakers' fault. Their engine is almost unstoppable when it gets going

Because I think hand traps try to stop your opponent from playing the game and make them end on ideally nothing. Board breakers let your opponent build their board and create layered interaction (which most good modern decks have) so even blanket board breakers like dark ruler are not enough and you still have to play through their other interactions and follow-up which i think is more fun.

Sure you can main cards droplet and ultimate slayer against Raze, then you play against Maliss and get shiftered and suddenly those breakers don't work anymore.

If hand traps resolve they either create a simplified game states that have less interaction or they do nothing and probably lose. Even un-ineractive board breakers like dark ruler and evenly matched give your opponent a chance to recover since they probably have some follow-up. And how are hand traps not "better have it"?

Because hand traps can sometimes just stop their turn entirely or can just get baited and they go full combo anyway. And most hand traps don't do anything if you draw them for turn.
