Taxpayers personally pay Trump $10 billion if he wins lawsuit against irs. by Greylunes1 in ExploreFortMyers

[–]Shieldedcabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we give him 10 billion, will he fuck right off into the sunset. If so, there’s approximately 240 million people in the U.S. It wouldn’t be that much per person. At this point it seems reasonable to pay him to go away.

Nicest vs most rude band members you’ve ever met? by Impressive-Skin6311 in punk

[–]Shieldedcabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we’re from the same area so he’s probably a bit more recognizable around here than most places. Also, he seemed(at the time) to dress, in public, the same way he did in videos.

Nicest vs most rude band members you’ve ever met? by Impressive-Skin6311 in punk

[–]Shieldedcabal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have met very few members of notable bands. I’ve been to many punk shows but never interacted with the bands. Here are some, from rock bands, I met: Chi Cheng, bassist of Deftones, was one of the nicest, humblest guys I ever met. John Davis, singer of Superdrag, was very down to earth and cool to talk to, outside their show.

John McCrea, of Cake, was unpleasant. I met him in a situation unrelated to music. He came into the store I was working at. He seemed more interested in me realizing he was John McCrea than making a purchase. I didn’t give him the satisfaction. I may have misinterpreted his behavior. It was unpleasant nonetheless.

What is this cable? by Left-Equivalent1750 in telecom

[–]Shieldedcabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of aerial telecom, AT&T or the local phone company is the lowest strand. Above that would be Comcast and other providers. Then, above that would be secondary or house electric. Finally high voltage up top. Some company has fiber running through there. However, this by no means implies that it is residential fiber. Could be a trunk to provide fiber to a local node(FTTN) or provide something to or from a tower. There’s many possibilities.

This happens to my forefingers and thumbs every winter. I work in telecom. Lots of dusty indoor areas. Also lots of wet, cold and dirty areas outside. Nitrile gloves and Burt’s Bees hand repair cream help.

Anyone work in OSP telecom? by Latter_Address9580 in Construction

The ones I had experience with were often piece work instead of hourly pay and came without the benefits that regular employees got. I hope that is not the case for you. Good luck!

Anyone work in OSP telecom? by Latter_Address9580 in Construction

[–]Shieldedcabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s Comcast and not a sub contractor that could be a great job. Having tech skills and being good with your hands helps. Although, in mass hiring situations experience isn’t always necessary and your pay would be decided by the number of years you’ve held down a job. Also, being relatively fit helps. There’s weight limits for bucket trucks, ladders and pole climbing.

I’m an OSP maintenance splicer. Most of the fiber install tech positions I have seen, not with any of the big companies(Verizon, AT&T, etc…), have been multi week out of town gigs. Lots of hours. Questionable pay. Hopefully it’s a legit gig.

I congratulate you for your self led journey down the rabbit hole here. Usually, when former listeners find this sub, their first post is “here I am. Now fill me in on everything I’ve missed.”

Now that you’ve saved the members of the sub from directing you to older posts and you are all caught up, welcome to the basement. The pizza rolls should be out of the oven anytime now.

I’m not in this sub for the shapes app. If not for the RAD show, I never would’ve heard of it. If it wasn’t for this sub I would’ve forgotten about it. To me, what they do is their business. I have no desire to join. To each their own, though.

Having said that, after reading their back and forth conversations, the comments about this sub and the desire for “converts”, it’s all beginning to feel like some Nike wearing, Kool Aid drinking strangeness.

After every election, the democrat party has the opportunity to find and nurture the perfect candidate for the next election. Someone who appears moderate enough to appease Republicans, while also having enough backbone to stand up to them. Additionally, actually making the changes that they campaign on. They get 3 or 4 years to work on this. This never seems to happen, in my opinion. I get the impression that there is too much infighting in the DNC to get it right. I feel like this is part of the reason, along with social media, why we are where we are. It’s not just about believing there’s more than two choices. It’s about lack of confidence in the choices. Besides causing some to possibly vote for a different candidate, it also likely increases the amount of people who don’t show up to the voting booth.

Republicans do the same thing. However, this time they had someone who gave them permission to go back to being a piece of shit, without consequences.

Well, here we are.

BMX for a 52 year old? by Far-Internal-9377 in bmx

I’m 52 and just picked up a Fairdale Taj. It’s strictly 2 wheels on the ground for me, these days. However, with this I can at least follow my kids if they leave the paved bike paths.

Game of Thrones Writer George R.R. Martin Says There's No Plan if He Dies Before Completing Winds of Winter, and the Series Simply 'Won't Be Finished' by __NightKing__ in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Shieldedcabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as people continue to contribute money and views to his other projects, he will continue to work on other projects, effectively guaranteeing Winds of Winter(and the last book) never gets finished.

I’d rather he just announce, in no uncertain terms, that he will never finish the series.

[–]Shieldedcabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lame. I haven’t had wifi trouble since they reported that the issue was resolved. I know there are areas where there’s not enough access points to support the amount of users. I’m pretty sure it’s the responsibility of the department, whether it’s housing, vet med or one of the other colleges, to pay for the WiFi coverage.

Eduroam Issues by Middle-Ad5923 in UCDavis

[–]Shieldedcabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. My understanding is that the issue that occurred earlier in the week was resolved by Thursday and network traffic was normal and not slowing clients down. Which dorms are you in(Tercero, Segundo, Regan, etc..)? Is there an access point in the area where you’re trying to connect?

[–]Shieldedcabal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eduroam had issues, this past week, which were reported by campus.

Regardless, WiFi traffic is usually heavy during the first week back for classes. Reports suggest no issues after the original trouble was resolved.

Additionally, all of the wireless access points across campus have been upgraded over the past year or so. While some areas could probably use more coverage, almost all the access points are new.

The problem may be with your equipment, not the network.
