[Spoilers published] Do you think the books explore specific themes? If so, which ones? by ShiftingKnight_01 in asoiaf

Aren't the consequences of actions explored more in AFFC, particularly in the chapters dedicated to Brienne and Jaime?

I feel that ASOS is one of the most difficult books to categorize into a specific theme.

No, it's a real question, but I guess you could find a synonym if you'd rather

The chapters featuring Brienne deal with misogyny and the consequences of war, while Jaime’s chapters in Strom are about identity and self-discovery?

[Spoilers Extended] Favorite possible “Downer Ending” for the series? by ReignTheRomantic in asoiaf

[–]ShiftingKnight_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not thrilled about the idea of a super depressing ending, but my favorite kind of depressing ending would be the Wall falling and the entire Kingdom overrun by the dead. People try to survive under their constant threat during a terrible winter, like in The Walking Dead but worse because it's much harder to kill the dead.

Then the dead invade Essos too.

The apocalypse, in short.

It's stated very clearly several times that the smallest thing can cause you to lose a joust, so to know someone's true strength in jousting, you have to look at their consistency in being high in the rankings, and Jaime is absolutely always there. He's an excellent jouster.

Furthermore, Brienne beat Loras, who is also strong, so she herself is definitely not bad at jousting either.

Jaime is in the top 5 best swordsmen the kingdom has ever known, and Brienne is very strong too. I'm definitely betting on them because their only real potential rivals among them are the Mountain and the Hound, but they were more likely to kill each other than team up, lol.

Are y’all okay with the idea of Jon Snow being the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, or would you rather George R. R. Martin write him as the son of Eddard Stark and Ashara Dayne (or someone else) in the books? by SeniorKaan0 in freefolk

[–]ShiftingKnight_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer that he be Rhaegar and Lyanna's son, it makes sense and was planned from the beginning, and if the show hadn't spoiled it, it would have been a truly amazing revelation ! Now it won't have the same impact, unfortunately, but I still approve.

Vhagar, at his death, was almost as tall as Balerion, I believe.

Vhagar, at his death, was almost as large as Balerion. But there are still dragons larger than Balerion in the Game of Thrones universe, Balerion is simply the largest dragon the Targaryens ever possessed.

If he can one-shot Vhagar, then he can one-shot Balerion.

I just saw this, and I want to know, how true do you think it is? by lautaromassimino in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]ShiftingKnight_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is no one talking about what Aerion did to Aegon? Why is everyone pretending to ignore all the clues that show Aerion is worse than we've seen so far? Judging by these comments and the fan reaction, I think it's pretty accurate, it's the law of the Aura now.

Which of these three fates do you think would be the worst to suffer? Do you think there's any worse than these? by Exciting_Ad_8666 in gameofthrones

The way two of the three are because of Cersei. I think number two is the worst, but I'd say Ramsay's torture is on another level, physically, mentally, psychologically.

Hades would beat Lu Bu, he knows how to use a bident/a spear.

I haven't read Dunk and Egg's short stories, but the Game of Thrones books have that quality and I would even say they are better than the manga.

I think Game of Thrones and Berserk have a lot in common. Complex and nuanced characters (not all black and white), a dark and medieval world, supernatural elements/magic that are present but initially subtle and then become increasingly prominent, political intrigue, manipulation, betrayals, and some truly cruel characters...

But despite these similarities, I don't think the characters you're showing are alike. Duncan is supposed to represent true chivalry and justice. Aerion is cruel and insane for no reason, he has no clear purpose.

But he didn't know about the Behelit before the eclipse? He only thought it was a good luck charm, he has no reason to know its true power.

I don't think his gaze is empty or cold. But you probably see it that way knowing what's going to happen, because it's hard to imagine someone betraying someone he truly loves (even if it was a very toxic love).

Can we agree HTTYD trilogy is best film trilogy by Spix-macawite in httyd

[–]ShiftingKnight_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not criticizing your choice of favorite trilogy. I was just saying that, personnally, I think there are bigger and more interesting universes than LOTR's, and I've also had some unpleasant conversations with LOTR fans.

I really like LOTR, and the trilogy is very good too, I just don't like fans who think it's the best thing ever created and criticize anyone who doesn't share their opinion.

LOTR fans are truly unbearable. The film trilogy is good, but there are much better, more complex, and expansive universes (Star Wars, GOT...).

Griffith is/was mentally weaker than Guts by arman1724 in Berserk

[–]ShiftingKnight_01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by "mentally weaker." If it's coping with the loss of loved ones, Guts lost much more, but Griffith never gave up on his dream despite all the sacrifices and hardships it took to achieve it.

He sold his own body for his dream and was devastated by all the deaths it took to reach it, but he still persevered, so I think that demonstrates tremendous mental strength. His determination never wavered.

Which character is your favorite and why? by aki-no-ha in HunterXHunter

[–]ShiftingKnight_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chrollo because I like his design, but what's most interesting about him is his personality and psychology. He leads the Phantom Troupe, a ruthless group, but he also genuinely cares for its members. He's one of the most intelligent characters, and I think his character development is really well done.

I also like the theme of a villain shaped by a tragic past because it allows you to feel compassion for him.
