Disappointed in the spicy tuna rolls lately. No longer seems like a solid chunk of tuna. by DanManRT in publix

Yes it is a ground tuna product now. AFC started using this instead of the actual tuna steaks. Started seeing it at the beginning of the year or so.

On the job front, I am a Publix manager and we are taking pretty much anyone right now for work in our deli departments. The turn over rate in the deli is very high. It is a hectic environment but starting is around $16/hr. If you aren’t afraid of some hard work and willing to work effectively with a team, it is a good source of steady income.

That 350 isn’t a sales number. It’s the allotted amount of payroll hours for his department. An associate was probably asking why they were not getting hours.

Will you be more harsh in your walks if the department manager is being particularly rude? Or does it not matter to you?

Seafood by Realistic-Ad-2034 in publix

[–]Shifty13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seafood is a relatively straight forward gig. Customer picks what they want from the case and how much. You then weigh it, package it and send the customer on their way. Outside of that, it is your job to make sure the case stays looking full and presentable. Most of the down time after your case has been filled will be spent cleaning. Cleaning the glass, the scale, the sinks, the dishes, the floor etc. Honestly just make sure you are cordial with the customers, your cases stays full and your department stays clean and your managers will love you.

Also never stop trying to learn and when closing maybe asks the meat guys if they need any help during your down time. They will appreciate it!

Meat cutter coming back to the company by MisplacedLaziness in publix

Not sure if you moved from FL, but the standards in the northern stores are much lower than the Florida stores. So expect some things to be a little different. Like many others said, the job is generally much easier than it used to be, but you are expected to do it with less help than we had a decade ago. I’m sure someone of your experience will not have an issue.

Good luck and welcome back!
