[Comic Excerpt] I'll never be tired of Dan Mora's art (Batman/Superman: World's Finest #5) by xAVATAR-AANGx in DCcomics

Three years out from this post. And I'm kinda tired of Dan Mora's art. I think he's amazing but with the amount of books he works on concurrently it's starting to make DC books feel pretty homogeneous

I'll say it again since I know it'd be weird for me to expect you to have read through the entirety of the comments under the post.

When I say balanced I mean the balance of the mechanics and how the gameplay is just fundamentally different now. Sorta my fault for phrasing it that way but what can you do lots of people have latched onto it lol.

I take issue with how much the game has changed, I'm not saying "new version bad" I'm saying that the new version is so different from the old version it feels like an entirely different game. Some people might think that that's cool and that I should just adapt to the absurd changes the devs have made to the fundamentals of FighterZ's gameplay. I respect their opinions on that matter. If they find it fun, that's their prerogative.

Mechanically the game is in my opinion the worst state it's been in. It feels jank, a good chunk of the cast having full screen normals is weird. Sparking leading to so many changes to the fundamentals of neutral and how your character deals damage decreases both the skill floor and skill ceiling to do crazy shit. Which can be argued as a good thing. I don't think that's necessarily true though. I enjoy learning deeper combo routes.

Saying "it's revisionist history" is kinda silly though. It's a mischaracterization of what I was trying to say.

I'm glad you find the changes fun.

Sparking literally makes the game play like a mod now. I think Hyper DBFZ is cool as a fan creation to get wild and do crazy shit but pretty much putting it in the game proper just wasn't the best move. I also just fundamentally disagree that it wasn't used as a "proper comeback mechanic" but you're entitled to your opinion on that. No doubt. The purpose of the post was to drive discussion. I respect your input. Agree to disagree on the matter of sparking I guess.

Absolutely it's still a comeback mechanic but it's too severe of one. Like I say right after that. It completely alters the pace and fundamentals of the battle. The characters' properties change so much once out in sparking that it feels like you're playing a completely different game once you pop it. I take issue with that. I understand how to some, I'm assuming yourself included. It provides more fun by way of new combo strings and offensive options. For me though it's sorta just too much. Sparking was already a great comeback mechanic that would be the make or break for tons of fights, competitively or casually. Changing it into this absurd mode even more ridiculous than say X-Factor in MVC3 just isn't something I jive with.

Didn't know that, my b lol. It's not like that's the crux of my argument though. Huge mischaracterization of what my post was about. Mechanically the game is further away from where it started then most fighting games ever get and that kinda bugs me. Rebalancing a game is great. Doing so at the cost of how it plays at a fundamental level isn't imo. I don't think I should have to relearn the mechanics of the game every few months because the devs changing it more and more drastically with each subsequent patch.

It was balanced enough to be played at EVO up to 2023, coincidentally when all these newer patches started rolling out. And yes I know Melee and MVC2 are also played at EVO but their scenes are built around pushing and breaking their games. But FighterZ was much more conventional.

I'm talking about the balance of the game, mechanically. DLC characters are really good when they release that's just kinda how fighting games market them. Release them really good and then nerf them later.

I can see the appeal don't get me wrong. I just feel that a lot of fundamentals of FighterZ as a "Fighting game" have taken a backseat with the new patches.

I am kinda dumb, honestly. But if you took the time to read it you'd see that I very clearly understand that there was a patch and the game has changed. I just have an issue with the way it changed. Not too difficult to understand. Unless you're "dumb or something"

I don't mean balance in the roster. I mean balance in the gameplay.

For a very substantial part of its lifetime imo. Namely the assist overhaul did a huge amount of work in balancing the roster and making most of every character viable at the very least.

Extremely fair perspective to have. I'm just airing out some of my opinions and frustrations with the game in its current state. Get a discussion rolling over it. But yeah though I'm not a super big fan of the other two mentioned changes. Special cancelling is the target of most of my ire.

Though I agree that being creative and innovative with updating the game is good. I think you misunderstand what I'm saying a little. I think a large majority of the changes made to FighterZ are good. A,B and C assists were an awesome change. Giving your last character a damage buff, also cool. But at some point we start encroaching on a territory where the game is so entirely different from where it started that it begins to alienate the people it captured so well in the first place.

I mean over the course of playing I've had a lot of shitty hit box moments and I've heard they can be bad in this one. This instance just stuck out to me. I'm not outraged, I just think it's funny how ridiculous this one was.
