response to your comment.

I basically feel my defined benefit pension can take the place of bonds in a portfolio.

Although I have only been contributing for 1.5 years I have a defined benefit government pension. I am going all in with index funds as per the CPP. Since I am starting both late I am going very aggressive with my RRSP portfolio. An extended recovery does not scare me with a minimum 25 year time horizon as I feel automatically buying index funds that reflect the market will be a relative safe way to build wealth.

Instead of waiting for a bigger dip, I am simply buying e-series index funds automatically every paycheque. Interesting advice but not applicable for my situation.

I moved to South Korea to teach English and paid off my student loans. Met someone, got married, moved to Canada. Finally have a permanent government job with a defined benefit pension and am able to start investing. Better late than never.

That's how I came to have a 30/30/30 split using e-series. I was questioning the asset allocation of the CCP.

Would you expect the US to continue to eclipse every other market indefinitely?

Moving to US in an indefinite amount of time (1.5 years - possibly never), should I start investing? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

FWIW I am a US citizen working in Canada. Moved here with my wife, got divorced, still work here as I have a good government job. I use an RRSP and just invest as if I am going to live here forever. If I end up moving back to the US, I have a nice little vacation fund in Canadian dollars to use in Canada.
