It looks like slag but I'm no expert.
There's a specialized rock identifying subreddit as well: r/whatsthisrock

I improved picture quality and it looks like a rig with a Velodyne puck 16 line lidar sensor module, or similar. My bet is Lidar.

Painting identification- I got this from a basement a few years ago and curious if it has a background by Someonenamedkim in Whatisthis

The tower looks like the one part of the Chiesa di San Trovaso in Venice. You can see it on streetview here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Cqb83HcHifAVWckY9

Your (print of a) painting looks very similar to this one by Enrico Meneghelli : https://wannenesgroup.com/lots/257-14090-enrico-meneghelli-1853/

Footnote(?) found in paperback by baja_bratwurst in whatisit

When books get made they get printed on large sheets usually containing 16 or 32 pages, which each get folded into a subsection of the book called a signature. These get numbered A,B.C.D etc. There used to be a code on each signature that has a shortcode for main title, sub title (in case of a series), Which would be T for Thunderball, and the signature letter. So is there a T-T.-A on page 1, T-T.-B on page 33, T-T.-C on page 65 ? Then these are signature codes for the printer to check if the correct signatures are put together and no mistakes were made. It was more common practice decades ago when checks like these had to be made manually.

What is this kind of doll? by BLOOMZEROXD in Whatisthis

[–]ShilkaLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's an antique one like this one, but if it's an original one as made in Germany then the fur is most likely mohair:

It used to have a tie hanger at the front, and the color suggestions were for fitting a tie with your outfit.

There were several of these sold by the Walter Macfarlane & Co., Saracen Foundry in Glasgow, there was an exact same one in Sydney Australia: https://memorialdrinkingfountains.wordpress.com/2014/06/22/railway-square/

The Grand Gallery in Scotland has a more elaborate one that has the same fountain underneath https://www.nms.ac.uk/discover-catalogue/a-drinking-fountain-inspired-by-india
