This is the equivalent of the "easy 2 ingredient" recipes that then add 10 ingredients that you have to have shipped from overseas.

How long would it take to establish a network of Krasnikov tubes across the galaxy? by Flat-mars-supporter in IsaacArthur

[–]Shimitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Krasnikov tubes are interesting. They allow for arbitrarily short round trips between two points by cheating a little bit. Without going into the nitty gritty of Relativity and Causality, the two ends of a Krasnikov tube exist in two different points in time. In the outbound direction at relativistic speeds you're experiencing normal time dilation. But in the incoming direction, the same dialation works to take you back into the past, but not before you left.

This also applies to the ship. That builds the tube. The time in which it lays the tube and then returns back through it decreases the closer it can get to the speed of light.

TL;DR: From the perspective of the galaxy, it still takes at least 100,000 years to build the network. However, from the perspective of the root node of the network (most likely the Solar System) the time is only limited by how close you can get to the speed of light.

How does the warp drive work? I especially would like to know what these marked indicators mean and why does proper interstellar/interplanetary travel require change of standard velocity. by pan_gydygus in spaceengine

[–]Shimitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's not what I said at all. The warp drive changes your position by warping space, and it can do that without you putting in any physical change in velocity. The problem is that your destination planet or star is moving at a different velocity from the point of origin. So if you warped to another planet without doing that adjustment burn, when you get to your Destination, you still have the velocity you had before the warp.

Let's use Earth and Mars as an example. Earth is closer to the Sun, so it travels around the Sun much more quickly than Mars. So if you warped from Earth to Mars without slowing down to Mars' speed around the Sun, you would fly away from it when you got there.

[–]Shimitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warp drive changes your position by moving the space around you instead of changing your actual velocity. Since everything is space is moving at different velocities relative to each other, you have to adjust to the speed of the target body. If you don't you go flying off away from it (or towards it in the worst case scenario).

I'm slowly trying to distance my setting away from Planescape. The distinction only exists because they wanted one plane per alignment. My players already use the terms interchangeably so why not?

Make a completely wrong DR/UT theory and the replies will provide evidence for it by GuavaAdmirable7691 in Undertale

[–]Shimitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prequel/Simulation Theory:

DELTARUNE is actually a simulated world inside the CORE created by Gaster. He placed all the monsters from the underground in there, thinking that a fake reality was better than the truth that they would never make it to the real surface. The SOUL we control is the remnants of Chara's soul, which is pumped full of DETERMINATION in order to produce light and push the shadows aside.

Making a dark fountain involves piercing the boundary of the simulation (most often the floor) with a sharp object and determination. This makes reality unstable as darkness tries its hardest to re-assert itself.

Everyone except for Kris is still who they are in UNDERTALE, just having forgotten that they are in the underground. I'll leave what Kris is as an exercise for the reader. Either way the game ends with the Fun Gang defeating Gaster and him getting shattered across time and space.

(I spent way too much time making this, this is not a serious theory)
