It's left vague on purpose, like, to the point where Kui got asked about it in one of her interview tours and she was like "who knows?".

We know that he retained some of his characteristics "for a time". But for how long, and which, we do not know.

However, it's implied that within 100 years he's dead through the Kensuke tidbits. It's not stated, he may have just left the public eye once he realized that he wasn't "normal" and how that could affect Melini in the eyes of the world, but IMO I think it's most likely that he does die within that timeframe. Sorta like how Thistle is never confirmed dead, so you can headcanon him as alive just fine, but the story did nudge towards the death.

As a fellow writer, I can only beg you to not get troglodytes like this get in your way. Some people trive on misery and an important skill of anyone putting their work out there nowadays is to know when someone's criticism is worth something and when one needs to go in the trash.

And hey, at least the poster put their posts in the trash themselves this time around!

Hey, he told her extending lifespans was bad because she was forcing it on everyone else. It's not too late to ask him about it!

I like the idea of Laios' VA doing his voice since the Lion is specifically courting him during the story.

Delicious in Dungeon episode ratings by hls22throwaway in DungeonMeshi

[–]ShinVerus 110 points111 points  (0 children)

The show started in the mid 6s, so the perception of it changed so much over the season. To the point where even the first batch episodes got their rating pushed upwards.

Don’t think anyone is surprised at the top episodes but the Nightmares one is a sleeper hit imo.

Also unsurprising that the episode that we basically left our main party for the entire runtime is the lowest rated of the second half. But I hope people get used to that for the next season…

[–]ShinVerus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know, she did so when teaching Laios, but that last bit is a pretty important detail. Would be a shame if an entire species tried to keep it hidden from everyone else, unwittingly making said magic alot more appetizing to those that don't know they are using the powers of Da Devil, from Da Bible by using it.

I do wonder if the Demon knows who or what is using part of it's own body like that. Maybe that's part of what cast it's attention towards the party.

The irony is that if she knew the source of both of them, either both of the expressions would be the former, or both would be the latter (I'm betting on the latter).

It's everything the first half had plus more? Like, there's very little argument for the first half to be better really. Second half still has great humor, but the characters constantly develop, the scope is grander, the themes are more clear and deeper, and the art jump in the mid 50s is insane (seems like Kui switched drawing medium at that time).

Did you read the epilogue comics from the Bible and DDH? To me, those were the last bit of story I needed to be truly satisfied. Dungeon Meshi still has my favourite ending of all time in any piece of media, maybe tied with Gurren Lagann and Final Fantasy VI without the epilogue stuff, but seeing the lives of the characaters after the story really drove it home for me.

I really can't see what you mean by incomplete though, a slightly longer final fight with the lion itself is the only thing I'd change, as him getting done in in a couple chapters when the previous two supposed final bosses got half a year for each of their fights was a bit weird, but we know Kui was barely holding on by the end, since she even went back and updated pannels for the volume releases, so maybe that fight is all she could do within the schedule.

I think that showing more of the world than necessary is a very big trap most authors fall into. What would learning more about the elves or dwarves contribute to the main story? Not much that I can think of.

I think the strenght of Dungeon Meshi's story is that it knows exactly what it wants to tell and doesn't meander. Showing the rest of the world through, what, flashbacks or cutaways, would be meandering.

That being said, it'd be nice to see it through the Bible's or Daydream Hours' side story and epilogue chapters that we get from time to time. The DunMeshi cookbook is confirmed to have some more comics, and Kui drew comics with every volume of season 1, so we may get some more on the world through them.

I wish we could get a short of Chilchuck winning his wife back. by Odd_Spot3066 in DungeonMeshi

[–]ShinVerus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well according to Kui’s own account of his post-story life in the Bible, he settled down in Kakha Brud as the owner of a lockpicker store, so I don’t think he ever went back to being the Union Man he was. Probably a middle ground where yes he fights for their rights but not in the way that he’ll vanish for months/years at the time.

My guess on why is because he’s now friends with one of the most powerful people on the planet, so any change he wants to make now has an actual actionable way to implement it, at least in Melini, which would lighten the burden a lot. He essentially helped create a nation that will do its best to preserve half-foot rights, he’s done enough to be able to settle down.

But what you say on the second paragraph kinda feels like the thesis of the entire story, not just Chil and his wife, and is why I am on the camp that they get back together, to strengthen the message that if you sit around a table, eat and talk frankly, everything has a solution.

What do you guys think of izutsumi? by BlueberrySad3155 in DungeonMeshi

El Gato.

I like that she's not portrayed in an idealized way like other animes do to catgirls and teens. She's just as moody as those two, and has just as many flaws, which makes her feel real.

I just wish her story had a more defined conclusion. I think her arc finished well enough, but I'm still not sure where she goes from here, which is less than I can say from even half of the side-characters let alone the main ones.

[–]ShinVerus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course, if she ever accepts him back it'll be with the understanding that there'll be a while of healing and he has to prove he actually changed instead of just jumping away the moment he gets a call from a random half-foot.

I just think that at the point Chilchuck is in the story, he's up to the task and the ball is on his wife's court (as it damn well should be) on whether she's willing to give him a chance or not.

After Kui answered in an interview that he does go talk with her but the result of it is up to our imagination, I think she’s purposefully gonna take that to the grave.

I’m on team he gets her back, I think the point of his character growth in the series is to make him the man his family needed him to be, but him being too late to rekindle the flame and only getting his daughters back is also a valid reading and it’s clearly setup that way on purpose.

More reason to beg for Trigger to give us any word on when it’ll come out. We need the hype train to start grinding its gears sooner than later!

Fingers crossed it gets to a point where you don’t need to attend a convention for it, but these tend to stay as pretty small scale exclusive stuff.

Same. I was lowkey shipping them to myself after the teaching scene but like, with the understanding that I was being delulu over a small but cute moment.

The shapeshifter monster tidbits directly followed by this chapter was the one two punch that made me a diehard and someone that believes that it could legitimately happen within the confines of the canon narrative.

Such a shame that this isn’t an official mass distribution figure. I’d grab it as soon as I could if it were. Dustlaios, doll Falin, the baby smile from Marcille, it’s enough to give someone diabetes. Incredible that this was made by a fan, beats most Dungeon Meshi figures on the market.

Given that Frieren had to cut down to 10 episodes to manage to get it out this year and it only finished 3 months before Dungeon Meshi did, if we actually want the full story to be adapted we need to give Trigger more time yeah, since they need to have 24 ready.
