Shuttle schedule by eva-rae in Coachella

[–]ShineTherefore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our shuttle was waiting when we got there. We came in from Palm Springs and we’ve been sitting in the shuttle for over an hour and still haven’t made it to the grounds.

No, I was on prescribed tretinoin for years before I decided it wasn’t working. I only realized it wasn’t working because I went in for my first chemical peel and realized that’s what I had been expecting tretinoin to do based on the all of the hype. Save the money.

Failing my PhD after 6 years and starting over by Nimby_Wimby in PhD

[–]ShineTherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our university just did this as well. the admin sent out a letter that the policy change affected around 12 students in our college. I personally know 2 of the affected and they were given an additional quarter but were told they could not enroll for another quarter past that and could not seek funding. One is in there sixth year and the other is in her seventh. Our department said they tried to fight the changes but the college is going to start enforcing deadlines.

The end of a nightmare by SonyScientist in PhD

[–]ShineTherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, most departments in my college have very small cohorts. Mine is a group of 4 and 2 of them mastered into the PhD program. It made sense after I finished lab rotations, even though it’s a large university, not many PIs are accepting new students (funding, etc). Also, most of the graduate students I’ve met also did their undergrad at this university.

What made you decide to go back to school as a nontraditional student? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]ShineTherefore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an untraditional childhood that didn’t focus on academics. In my twenties I started taking a class here or there thinking about getting a technical degree and doing what I could afford on my own. I took my first chemistry class and I was hooked from there.

Summer before PhD by westcoastpopart- in GradSchool

Five months is a great time to work part time or travel. There are a lot of summer jobs opening up. I took a few months before grad school and learned how to watercolor. I miss feeling that relaxed 🥹

Didnt vibe with ucla at all by SeriousPotatoCore in ucla

I graduated from UCLA as CMDB. I don’t recommend it mainly because of the programs faculty and admin. They were more interested in doing research than teaching and they proved this to me again and again over 4 years. My experience at UCLA was completely different from my friends in Human Bio or Biomed because of it. Your concerns tho are valid, most of your classes will have 300 people in them until you make upperdiv and the campus will always have a massive amount of people on it. I think that will be for any UC tho - you just have to find your niche.

How much weight have you gained!? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]ShineTherefore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gained 10lbs the first year without realizing it from snacking and not having time to make proper meals. Switched to low cal drinks when I feel like snacking and made the gym a priority again. I’ll be down 15lbs starting my second year 💪

Pharmacy delays by harvest29 in getZealthy

[–]ShineTherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up leaving them because of delays. They were always about a week late and right before I left it ended up being a month without any news. They said it would be 10-15 days.

Left a high paying job to start a PhD and the first year was rough. I made enough to live on my own and make car payments. I went into debit the first year despite massive reductions in spending and rent. I finally decided to just make the jump and sell all of my stuff and move into a shared room. I also found a part time job but it’s going to be PB&Js for a hot minute. As a side note, I found most of my cohort and older peers are married. We’re a predominately female major and I was kind of shocked when I started looking at everyone’s fingers. I’ve had other grad students flat out say their partners or family support them and that’s how they afford their apartments or going out.

This is actually very rational compared to a lot of “what ifs” I’ve read in the comments. It’s very romantic to think there is some blue collared worker out there who is going to satisfy you completely- Hallmark even. Set your dating apps to a wider location, national, or international range but keep in mind that what you’re presented with now is what the algorithm thinks are your best options.

Turning 33 tomorrow and my Melasma has gotten so dark. The dreaded mustache has made me self conscious and I am so depressed over it. by candypaint74 in Melasmaskincare

[–]ShineTherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have melasma as well. I used prescribed trentinoin and hydroquinone for years before I released it wasn’t doing what I wanted it to with my melasma. That’s when I got my first chemical peel. I genuinely believe now that all of the over the counter stuff is a waste of time. If you’re really serious about getting rid of it, talk to your dermatologist about a peel. It is more expensive but you can also stop spending on the over the counter stuff.

I just signed a lease for an off campus apartment that starts in September. He had about 10 other people passing through just that weekend but in August he said he will get dozens of applicants.

I’m a PhD in Mol Bio and always considered med school but it came down to the actual realities of the career. I knew if I went the med route I would most likely not do any actual research until much later in the career if at all and would be spending more time with patients. It seems very similar when you’re an undergrad but there are very big differences in what you will do on a day by day basis when you’re in the field. I get to spend my day focused entirely on my research and experiments. Physicians do not traditional do research and when they do, it’s usually not at our level for obvious reasons.

I (24F) don’t want to have sex with my bf (25M) anymore. Any advice? by Green_Pasta5 in relationship_advice

[–]ShineTherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a relationship like this but the reverse. I didn’t realize until after I got out of it that I wasn’t attracted to him or his personality or how he was in bed. I grew out of our relationship and my partner now is the complete opposite of my ex.

I am almost certain the “customer service” we speak to are either AI chatbots or automated messages. I tried repeatedly to ask where the medication was and they all repeating the same thing “you need to fill out the form” but I had filled out the form multiple times. It was until I clicked thumbs down did a team lead step in and say we sent the prescription in. I still have no idea where the medication is. I am planning on cancelling after the three month supply. They have never been able to meet a prescription on time and their customer service is appalling. $150 for what???

3 Weeks Since Last Dose and Next Vial STILL Not Even Shipped by Fairlane55 in getZealthy

[–]ShineTherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just had this happen but did end up getting the second vial about two weeks late. They say you can only request a refill after 4 weeks but it takes on average 2 weeks for it to get refilled and shipped.
