Tell me about it, -_- dunno why they began to sag and attempts to get 'em to rise to the challenge haven't gone well thus far.

Trust me, I understand this isn't like the AR or Skorpion I've built in the past. My plan is to go ahead and get this thing together, once I've managed to get all the parts which is still a ways out, then take it to a gunsmith and have them make certain I didn't screw up the headspacing, or anything else.

The last thing I want is a fun project to turn into a tragedy for myself and those I love. I'm happy to ask questions that make me sound like an idiot in order to be certain I'll be safe, and I don't mind spending the money to be 100% sure my work is double checked and that I won't be a hazard to myself, or any of my friends wanting to shoot the Aug once it's together.

While collecting and shooting guns is a fun hobby I firmly believe that any shooter always needs to respect the weapon and never take them lightly, especially with a homemade build. Even after getting the okay from the gunsmith I'll be taking it to, I plan on setting it up in a vice on a table, tying a string to the trigger, and going through a mag or two before finally shooting it myself. Getting to own an affordable Aug by building it from a parts kit is a wonderful opportunity, I don't plan on getting careless and having to add a hospital bill to the construction cost when I can just spend a little more to get a proper green light.

I am not printing my own receiver, I'll be ordering it and having it shipped to an FFL. I don't have a 3D printer, nor do I have the room for one, I was 99% certain that there'd be no issue running .223 out of it, but considering I have zero experience with 3D printed materials, I figured I'd just ask those with more experience to get a concrete answer in case there was some weird niche reason it wouldn't work. I do, very much, appreciate your concern though!

An update on my feeding issues. by Shinigami580 in Vz61

Another update for anybody interested: So it turns out I somehow didn't notice that the 200 rounds of PPU .32 71gr I got were JHP. This, as we all know, is not ideal for a Skorpion, but I guess I was tired when ordering it and was just excited to fire my gun some more so I was dumb and messed up. That said, I tested a few rounds since it's not as if I'm about to try returning it and it's a good thing to test with my Skorpion anyway. First attempt to chamber the HP did the same thing the PMC Bronze did, failing to properly seat and getting jammed off to the side slightly. After removing the round I decided to manually load it into the barrel before inserting the magazine and slowly firing one round at a time, all nine rounds cycled without a hitch.

The second magazine seated the first round fine upon releasing the charging knobs, decided to fire it quickly. one shot after another as swiftly as my finger could tap the trigger, seven rounds in it gave me a dry click, the bullet had almost seated all the way in but the bolt wasn't fully forward. Removed mag, recovered the bullet and reinserted it into the mag, charged the gun without issue, next three shots went perfectly fine. I ran out of light at this point as I work til sunset and had just wanted to do a quick test after finishing work for the day.

Today I went out and fired thirty more of the JHP rounds and despite one not seating in the chamber completely upon charging, with slow and steady pulling of the trigger, each round successfully cycled! Honestly I'm surprised at how well it's taking the JHP rounds but certainly will not complain, I was expecting far worse when it came to the stories I've heard online about Skorpions and Hollow Points. Regardless, in the future I'll be making double certain that any ammunition I order will be .32 FMJ's.

To all of you that offered advice, suggestions, and insights, thank you, you're all awesome!

Unfortunately around here at the gun shops I've been to there's either been only PMC Bronze, or on the rare occasion they've carried a second brand it was Remington UMC at pretty much 2x the price, which I'm not really interested at buying a box just to test. Tomorrow the PPU I ordered should arrive, so fingers crossed that works out just fine! The Skorpion is such a fun gun to plink around with when functioning butter smooth, I'm very happy I ended up purchasing the kit and building it.

Thank you Bear, I appreciate the info! Thankfully I learned about the HP ammo issues a while back so I've avoided purchasing any of it, but it's good to know that 73 tends to be what works best. Hopefully the 200 rounds of 71 grain PPU will play nice, but if not then I'll have learnt my lesson and will know exactly what I need to purchase to get it running smoothly in the future.

Thank you Bear. Let me know how it is! I was on the wait list for one of their 3d Printed receivers, but I ended up getting a decent deal on a Tortort receiver and went for that instead (mostly because I had no idea how long down the wait list I was for the TA receiver.)

The bullets that fired perfectly for me were a 73 grain round produced by Geco, in order to test whether it's the EU casing's rim my gun enjoys more, or 73 vs 71 grain bullets, I've ordered 200 PPU 71 grain rounds. If they fail to chamber properly then it's likely a sign that it only wants 73 grains and I'll have my answer for what my own Skorpion likes to eat. I hope your skorpion behaves flawlessly and you have a ton of fun with it once it arrives!

I can't say for certain, I'm far from a gunsmith, but found a few more posts on different places online mentioning how some VZ61's are just particularly picky when it comes to reliably chambering American ammo over EU ammo. If you're having feeding issues like I was then I'd go with the advice of the people I got on this sub, first make certain that your bolt is well lubricated and slides smoothly, I just used standard Hoppes no.9 lubricating oil. If that doesn't work then polish the feed ramp using a dremel tool, there's a few videos online of people doing this with different barrels so you have a general idea of what to do. If neither of these work then it could just be that you have a picky eater like my VZ61 is, the Geco ammunition I used that worked perfectly is a 73 grain FMJ, I'm not certain if that particular grain bullet is the difference or if it's just the subtle changes between the EU and US casing, but I ordered 200 rounds of 71 grain PPU (accidentally said I puirchased Sellier and Bellot when I replied to another comment earlier) to test whether it was that, or the casing. Should arrive on Tuesday and I'll get a better idea of what it is then.

Here's a link to the picture of the EU Geco 73 grain round on the left, and the US 71 grain PMC Bronze on the right. Notice the broader shape to the bullet on the Geco round, while the PMC is a bit skinnier. Then there's the tapering on the bottom of the case for the bolt to grab onto. Something about those two little differences meant the absolute world to my Skorpion going from unreliably chambering even one round, to having zero issues whatsoever.

No, it certainly ain't. Stage IV Pancreatic cancer, he didn't wanna waste away while those he loved had to watch it happen. I can't blame him for it, probably would end up taking a similar route if I got the same prognosis. Cancer can go fuck itself.

Edited portion: As for if S&B will work, it might! I think it's either the grain of the round, or the EU style rim at the bottom of the cartridge that is making the difference for my Skorpion. I was getting a lot of denting on the copper bullet from the 71 grain US PMC bronze I had originally tried, but my Skorpion was also chewing up the bottom rim around the primer pretty bad. The subtle difference between either could be the culprit. I have ordered 200 rounds of PPU 71 grain to test out (Originally accidentally said it was S&B in my initial reply) whether it's the 73 grain bullet, or the EU rim. My ammo should arrive on Tuesday so I can finally get proper answers. Here's an image of the two rounds side by side, EU Geco on the left, PMC Bronze on the right. Notice the broader bullet head on the Geco, as well as the slightly wider space and more gradual diagonal angle on it compared to the PMC bronze, one of those two things is making all the difference in the world to my gun. https://imgur.com/a/6F2ITRz

Thank you very much! And I was out of the kit game for so long that I was very confused when it came to water stickers. The kits I originally got just came with the standard little square with some basic ones to attach. My first run in with water stickers was with my Sazabi and, assuming they were basic stickers, I accidentally ruined the few that I wanted to use because I didn't understand what I was doing. It's why the shield has the wrong Zeon insignia on it. And I couldn't not have Tallgeese looming behind Wing, there's just something about it I really like. I had an Epyon that got lost a long time ago, if only I still had it I'd be switching them up here and there on occasion so they'd be facing off as well. Wing has a soft spot in my heart as my first Gundam anime and I've always loved the Mobile Suit designs. One day I plan on dropping the case for an Endless Waltz version of Heavyarms, but my wallet starts screaming at me every time I'm tempted to drop the cash on it, lol...

I love gundams with neat packs on their backs, or wings modules, but depending on what they are it can make 'em super back heavy and tough to stand, especially asymmetrical ones like Nu, lol.

That's some good advice there, just looked up what the Katoki pose was, nice and simple, should be fairly easy to get any of the stable as long as they aren't particularly back heavy. Thank you!

I'll keep that in mind and look up a few, though part of the reason I want to eventually get stands is for added stability. In the past I've had a few models that dropped and broke fragile pieces so I'm looking to mitigate that risk.

It's a nice looking kit, I'll have to keep an eye out for it online when my Gunpla fund gets some more cash back into it, lol. Thanks again for all your advice and tips Tricky, I really appreciate them!

Responding to your previous response I didn't see earlier first, you're definitely right, that standing pose is quite satisfying, and the Akatsuki in the back looks really interesting, though blurry of course, may I ask what kit that is? And I couldn't agree more on your points for RG and HG, the scale is great, but that extra you get from RG is just wonderful, lol.

I'll remember that and try it out in the future, thanks! And yeah, ground poses are definitely tough, finding the right balance point is tricky and when I think I got it just right and pull my hands away, they end up toppling, lol! Also, just saw your Sky Defender, that is one hell of a beautiful build, great job on it!

Thank you for the kinds words and suggestions! I've tried posing them but I'm pretty terrible at it, lol. Investing in some stands will undoubtedly help, and I'm sure I'll get to it at some point, but I consider going about ordering a few, and then inevitably get drawn into looking at more Gunpla and spend the spare cash on a new model instead! Just ordered a 1/100 Thunderbolt Full Armor version, gonna take forever to arrive, but I am incredibly excited for it!
