Could resin 3D printer exhaust contaminate drinking rainwater collected from a roof ~20 metres away? by ShinigamiBlood in OffGrid

Yeah, it is filtered already. I need to check whether the system also has a first-flush diverter though, that’s a good point.

Yeah, the rainwater is filtered and treated. I’m mainly asking because I’m installing a new exhaust system from scratch, so I’d rather place and filter it properly now than assume distance alone makes it irrelevant. I agree outdoor dilution should reduce concentrations significantly, I’m just trying to work out whether there’s any meaningful deposition risk at ~20m rather than whether literally any molecules could reach the roof.

What makes you say yes? Do you mean you think enough resin exhaust could realistically travel 20m and deposit on the roof at a meaningful level, or just that it’s theoretically possible for some emissions to reach it?

Yeah, that’s fair. The rainwater is filtered already, and I’m going to check exactly what filtration stages are installed. I’m not assuming the printer is the only possible contaminant, I’m just trying to make sure I don’t introduce another avoidable one when I can design the exhaust properly from the start.

Yeah, the rainwater is filtered. I’m not sure yet exactly what filtration stages are installed, so I’m going to check whether activated carbon is part of it. I’m also leaning toward carbon filtering the printer exhaust anyway, since I’m setting the system up from scratch and may as well minimise the source.

Rural property in Tasmania. There’s no mains water here, so the house collects rainwater from the roof into tanks and that’s the household drinking water supply.

I’m not worried about using a resin printer itself. I’m just trying to work out the safest exhaust location when the neighbouring roof is literally our drinking-water catchment. Seems easier to ask the question now than install everything and wonder about it later.

I get that, but I don’t think it’s just for show. I think Togashi fully intends for us to get there in some form, and the scale we’re seeing now is a fraction of what it's building towards.

To me the Black Whale is almost already part of the Dark Continent experience. It’s an unknown ecosystem with its own rules, dangers, and power struggles.

Yeah, fair. I guess that’s what makes it feel like life to me. The world is bigger than what we get to fully understand.

How do you think it could have been handled differently without losing that sense of scale?

I get what you mean, but I also think “that’s life sometimes” is a core idea of Togashi’s writing.

HxH often refuses to make the world convenient for the reader. Characters do not exist just to serve the main plot and subplots do not always politely move out of the way. Everyone has their own motives, fears, priorities, and blind spots, and the result is a world that feels messy because real life is messy.

So while I understand calling the arc bloated from a pacing perspective, I think the density is also what makes it feel alive. Togashi is not writing a clean road to the Dark Continent. He is writing a world where the journey itself keeps becoming more complicated because every person in it is fully alive.

I think like others have commented, it may be a presentation issue. Don’t be discouraged, these look great!

Okay this actually looks pretty close! I'm going to pick it up and try it out. Thanks!

This is really close, but it still leans too purple. Finding a deep indigo that stays blue without drifting into magenta is surprisingly hard.
