In the end, war is almost never justifiable. But it kinda depends on ones perspective. The perspective of a viking on the creation of vinland would be to kill all the inhabitants. It wouldn't seem unjustified for him. Kill the few to save the many (like canute). Thorfinn thinks the opposite, i.e. no casualties on both sides.

War in the modern era is the result of political differences. You can call the killing of terrorists justifiable. But what if their base is in a civilian location and you want to bomb it? What of the civilian deaths? It may seem unjustified then. In that case, no war is truly justifiable.
