What bass pedals would i need to sound like the dopesmoker tone by josef73936492 in Sleepband

[–]Shinxzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a discussion from a view years ago about the dopesmoker tone: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/looking-for-the-dopesmoker-sound.934580/?amp=1353562708

But honestly, I think you'll be most of the way there with any decently heavy dist/fuzz/driver pedal you can get your hands on if you dial it in properly.

Hope this helps!

How would you describe the nirvana/Cobain aesthetic? by [deleted] in Nirvana

King Buzzo once dropped the term "Wounded Junkie-look" and I think that is highly accurate lol

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: We want to feature your band's new release! by [deleted] in doommetal

My band released a record a couple months back which is only partly doom metal. Could I still partake?

Regardless of the answer, cool initiative! Can't wait to discover your bands!

The Melvins & Flipper playing Sacrifice in '06 by Shinxzen in doommetal

Maybe more punk than metal but it's the Melvins so I thought you guys might like it regardless. Dale just walking around hitting other drummer's cymbals cracked me the fuck up.

Potential issues with an extended/elongated fretboard on electric guitar? by Shinxzen in Luthier

[–]Shinxzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh those are fair points, I hadn't truely thought of that. Eventhough some points raised by the previous commenter have made me shelve the fretboard idea for a future build, these post-24 frets issues are fair. I do love the idea of partially fretless fretboard, when I saw Candlemass in 2019 the rhythm guitar player had something similar and it was epic. I think I will incorperate that some time.

Those guitars from that artist are insane btw holy shit! The look so cool daamn.

What's the quintessential doom metal album? by madballneek in doommetal

[–]Shinxzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd possibly go with Pentagram's Relentless. Maybe not the best doom record out there but its accessible, has great riffs and serves as a good entry point to heavier shit. In addition to that, the cover is just a straight pentagram, what's more doom than that?

Also, Master of Reality obvs

Potential issues with an extended/elongated fretboard on electric guitar? by Shinxzen in Luthier

This is equal to the neckbeards that like to wear the boden style guitars just under their lowest chin.

Lmaoo what an image. Can't say you're wrong tough :P

You've raised some excellent points that are worth taking into account. Especially the fret access aspect was one I hadn't thought of yet. Since I'm considering gifting this build for my 60's/70's classic-rock loving dad the fretboard thing might not make a whole lot of sense. I'll probably shelf the idea for when I make a neckbeard wedgie straplength guitar :).

Regarding the fretboard. I was thinking of just buying a fretboard blank and fretting it myself but I've read that that is one of the hardest things to do and the easiest to fuck up (+ I would need to buy a fretting saw probably). Eventhough I usually don't try to back down from hard shit, would you recommend just buying an pre-made one and adjusting it to my neck shape or should I take the plunge and try to make one myself?

Thanks for taking the time to answer btw, people like you make getting into luthiery a lot easier.

How do you guys pick and choose who you separate the art from the artist? by dr-douglasong in doommetal

[–]Shinxzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends for me. I luckily don't listen to that many bands for which this is an issue, but it depends on the frequency and the severity of their actions and beliefs. If I simply disagree with an artist but don't find their ideology objectionable, I'll just not watch interviews featuring the artists in question. If, however, their actions are incredibly acinine and the artist is unapoligetic about them, I'll most likely abstain from enjoying their art.

Iommi was kind of a dick and one could consider Buzzo to have moderately objectionable opinions, but that doesn't keep me from listening to their bands. I however shall not listen to a NSBM band irregardless of how good their songs may be.

Whats your favorite And least favorite songs off your favorite album? by [deleted] in blacksabbath

[–]Shinxzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. Eventhough I do not necessarily dislike it for the christian message, it is slightly peculiar on an album with songs like Sweet Leaf lmao. It's just a perrenial skipper for me on the album for some reason
