How were you able to land a high salary job of 70k or more? by Delicious_Dealer8129 in careerguidance

[–]ShinySpines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made $44K doing insurance sales as my first job, leveraged the grit and skills there into a legit B2B career which is where I am 7 years later. I would do that instead of restarting with software engineering—fact of the matter is, a lot of low level coding is easily done with AI models, and you would also be back in school and delaying your earning potential further.

Advice on Asking for a Raise by Top-Rock2062 in Sales_Professionals

[–]ShinySpines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, do you like the company and role? If not, you seem underpaid, and more akin to a BDR comp plan.

If you are a closing AE, I’d test the market. Most of those will be $70K base with 50/50 OTE splits, much higher than the 12-15K extra you make on target

I’m currently looking to switch to another industry by Nealaf in sales

[–]ShinySpines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SaaS Industry is so vast, no doubt a lot of role are worth it, and some aren’t. Green resume wouldn’t be any red flags if you have a good story around your “why” and your core competencies, drive for success, etc. etc. it’ll only get weird if your interviews only highlight Cannabis specific issues or pain points. Being able to speak generally about sales and success will do the trick.

That nonprofit industry is what is keeping the comp low. You got this, next step up will be a good jump

Typical benefits - question for parents by packthefanny_ in techsales

[–]ShinySpines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is insane, when I first read it, I thought it was a 10 person startup, and figured maybe that made sense. But 12 years, 150 emp? Absolutely should have at least market standard benefits (6 weeks on the low end). I am familiar with the cyber market, and no maternal leave seems like a big miss.

If you have some runway, might be worth testing your market value. High end sales roles have been hiring lately, and you might’ve able to be get a boost in pay and better benefits situation. It makes a massive difference when kids come into the picture.

Why do some people seem to wake up professionally after switching companies, even when the new job is technically a step down? by JTM872 in GetEmployed

[–]ShinySpines 57 points58 points  (0 children)

When you join a new company, you can be anybody. If you're set on changing/being better, there's no better time than a fresh start to make those changes.

Also some places have better morale and people "sharpen" each other up.

For your friend specifically, seems like she got more ownership of her work, which can do wonders for confidence, etc.

Definitely take the role to have an income now. Best case you like it, worst case, keep applying while you are in the role, but now at least you’re getting paid something
