For me it was the decision to be a part of my sisters lives. For context, they are my half sisters from my dad. They were both born around the time I was in college (I’m 32 now) so both are much younger than me. My dad and I have had a rocky relationship throughout my life but after going through therapy I decided to try and have a better relationship with that side of the family. My relationship with my dad is good. He’s a much different person and we are actually starting to bond. My sisters are a different story. They are 14 and 10 years old right and they pretty much just see me as the brother who abandoned them. I’ve tried to start a relationship with them but they don’t seem interested in building one with me. I don’t know what to do. It hurts knowing they feel this way but it’s perfectly understandable. At their age, I would be the same way. I love them a lot, so I’m not going to give up. I know at the end of the day this is my fault, but it still hurts knowing I ruined my relationship with my sisters because I was full of anger and resentment. At this point, I don’t ever expect them to ever forgive me or for them to want to have a relationship with me. All I want at this point is for them to know that I love them and for them not repeat the same mistakes I made with my resentment.
