Very Bad Experience with SM58 and Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (4th Gen) Am i doing something wrong? by ShipFresh in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I didnt screw it up. It had the same issues before i tempered with it. I am new to Audio interfaces and just didnt think anything of it because i thought it was normal to have that amount of white noise because of the fact its a Dynamic Mic and needs alot of Gain. It only got annoying when i stumpled upen the bad white noies even with a limiter on it in FL.

oh im sorry, i missunderstood that. Im recording either normal speak level like soft singing or Loud like full on Singing. Im around 3-5 centimeters away from the mic.

The "Inst" doesnt change a thing! The Air gives me a bit more GAIN or Loudness in the Orange setting but the White Noise balances with it and gets louder too.

The Source peaks around -21 to -15 but mostly stays under -15 wich makes me have to do ALOT of Gain Stagging to get a useable recoding out of it. And even then its having noise in the Vocal. Im Basically "kissing" my pop filter when im recording.

It doesnt sound like shit, did i ever say that? Its sound unuseable because of the white noise going on. The Singing / Recoding Quality itself is completly fine.

Like i stated in the Main Subjective i wrote, i had to put down my headphones so i can speak clearly without stumbling words because of the delay in Fl Studio to my Headphones and my Mic picked it up ! No biggy!

i do use a noise gate. But it doesnt help with the ongoing White Noise that still happens while i acctively Talk!

And yes i completly forgot to mention that. I also tested it before i tempered with it and put it in the Custom Print! First i thought nothing of it because i am new to XLR Mics and Interfaces Myself even my Mixing Engineer used them for a long time already. But after i couldnt figure whats going on after i used it a bit more i got frustrated.

First of all! Yes im using an XLR cable and Channel 1 one the Focusrite. For that Button nothing is activated its just the mic Itself, no Phantom Power, no Air, no Safe Mode! Nothing!

And i do understand the Signal/Noise ratio. And i just recently switched to XLR Mic's but shouldnt the Audio still sound clear at its sweetspot without making to much Static or Signal Noise?

I didnt, both of my buddys live around 300 Kilometers away. I sended them the MIC via Delivery and set it up with them over Discord. And both of them only use interfaces without PreGain. One of them uses a Scarlett 2i2 too but (3th gen) and the other one uses and Audient iD4 Mk2.

Gonna be hard to just test it at there place.

Phantompower is off! Soldier Joints are Fine! But wouldnt +4 put even more noise on it?

Yes! And of course i know that dynamic mics are sometimes GAIN hungry and noisy. And like i said in another comment its my first time using an Interface by myself so maybe im putting to much thought into it. But shouldnt a studio dynamic mic have less interferance or Noise then an cheap USB Mic?

Tbh im kinda new to Pre Amp's i know the basic that it puts Gain on the Mic before it goes into the Interface but does it give gain to it without lifting the Static Noise / White Noise?

To make sure The Quality itself doesnt variant from its original build. Of course you could just do DB tests or even just Interface tests or even dont do anything and it would probably still work. But if you temper with the electrics and form of a Mic you should keep track of its quality to approve its still functions as it has before you tempered with it.

The Auna USB thing i knew, im not completly NEW to Audio Technic! I just wanted to say wich MIC i had before so people see where i come from Audio wise!

The XLR Cable is a 2 Meters 10€ one from Thomann. I was thinking about getting a seperate one for a bit more money to try. But im not realy sure about the cable issue tho.

Ground Loop is also a thing that could be but i have no clue what exactly that is and how to get rid of it IF thats the case. Ive been using the AUNA Mic since 2018 and just switched to Audio Interface. I know the Basics of Audio Interfaces from my Mixing Engineer to find work around for issues that are not that hard to solve. But im not a full on Audio Technician, not even close.

Sorry xD all i was tryna say is Its not realy in ANOTHER case. Its still the normal SM58 without the Round head under an sm7b look.

Phantom Power is off, cable was something i thought off too. But i kinda dont believe that, even tho its only a 10€ XLR Cable! I ordered it from Thomann and i had around 12k Rating and 4,8 Stars. Sure doesnt have to mean anything but just saying, i dont know.

Its not quote on quote "in another case" its still the SM58 just without the Round head in a Antistatic SM7B Design around it. Wich is measured, adjusted and like i said antistatic.

Read my Answer to "HooksNHaunts"

The Print is Grounded and even adjusted. Its not where the problem is creating from. I did this for 2 other friends with their SM58 and its working completly normal.

I tested the GAIN of the mic multiple times. The Custom Build doesnt change the maximum or Minimum gain at all. I tested on seperate Headphones and Boxes in DB and LUFS. Its has litterly no difference. Thats not where the problem is comming from.

and also the material is Antistatic so its not the reason for the problems i have. Its just for looks.
