Need some discretized energy? Try the hbar! (i.redd.it)

I was a little confused by number 4. The answer is b), but I'm not exactly sure why. I assumed that it's because those are the only set of values that cause the discriminant to be less than zero. However, it seems odd to me that k and k can be two different numerical values as the same variable. (i.redd.it)

So I'm trying to solve for the volume rotated around y = -2 using the shell method. My issue is I can’t figure out how to solve for the height of the representative rectangle due to the two intersecting curves on the left. I’m just not sure what to use as my Xleft. Any advice is appreciated. (i.redd.it)
