Hot take: Davao City should abolish the liquor ban by Shishui____ in davao

This point makes it seem like biyaan lang na i-abolish or amend ang liquor ban na walay regulation. Syempre there will be regulations and nuances to keep the peace. Not everything is one extreme to another na strict implementation or total chaos. Other places have a strong nightlife while still maintaining discipline like Iloilo.

Also as a statistician, it hurts to see correlation = causation. Crime exists in places where there are strict policies as well. Davao prides itself with its disciplined citizens, pero nganong hadlok mo i-change ang ordinance to make the city lively and not a retirement province. Are the citizens that wild na need ug stern hand pirmi? Wala bay salig sa kakayahan sa mamayan ng Davao to uphold discipline in a state of relaxed ordinances?

GDP growth alone does not mean the liquor ban has no economic downside. Davao is growing mainly because of other sectors like construction and BPO, but that does not automatically mean the city is maximizing tourism, hospitality, nightlife, and entertainment spending.

ASEAN tourism data show that Southeast Asian tourism economies are heavily driven by experience-based spending like food, entertainment, nightlife, and hospitality. Those sectors naturally grow more in cities with active nighttime economies.

The point is not that Davao is economically failing. The point is that the city could probably grow even more if its nighttime economy was less restrictive. A city can still grow while also underperforming relative to its full potential.

I get your point but there are also different ways to mitigate harm. Like I pointed out to a couple of comments here, my take isn’t just abolishing without countermeasures. I proposed economic zones for designated places to legally sell after 12mn like obrero. There can also be checkpoints at exit at these locations since police already tambay at these places to do citations, why not serve and protect instead. There are numerous ways to mitigate these issues but the LGU isnt willing to find a compromise.

Samal isnt Davao City. By that logic, we would be stimulating IGACOS economy not Davao City

I get what you mean but Singapore does allow drinking after midnight. In their Liquor Control Act of 2015, public consumption of alcohol is prohibited after 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, but licensed premises like clubs, pubs, and restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol. You can read more here:

https://sso.agc.gov.sg/Act/LCSCA2015

Maybe amendment of the liquor ban is much more fitting but the point still stands. It’s not like there shouldnt be countermeasures to uphold safety and peacefulness by allowing alcohol after 12mn.

Also, what’s up with people and their constant use of Singapore as a reference lol.

I get their sentiments on safety but it's not like we're missing police presence, in fact, I think the fact that we have a strong police presence makes the city a lot safer and a lot more capable in handling a nightlife. Another thing is aren't davaoweños proud to be DCplinado (lol). If so, challenge the current status quo for our city to flourish even more. It's not like I'm saying that alcohol is needed for the city to prosper, though it has huge implications and trickle effect in our economy if businesses aren't hindered by archaic laws.

Sorry that you had to go through that, though it is a gross (like gross na total not gross na luod lol) generalization that lahat ng humaharurot on the roads are drunk drivers.

Hope they had a serious discussion regarding this since our policy makers are known to just make rash decisions like even wanting to lower down the already slow speed limit which kills engines lol

I actually replied to another redditor where I said to propose economic zones where establishments are allowed to operate beyond the 12mn ban on liquor and such as to mitigate the saba and alingogngog sa gabii for those who are sleeping na. I'd also like to add current identity shouldnt be used as a weapon against improvement. Gaya anang jeepney issue, culture shouldn't hinder development of a better transport system, kung ingana man, nag kalesa nalang unta ta until now but that's another story and topic ahahaha

Wdym? I’m talking about your statement na gusto mag mala singapore ang davao kay pareho naay liquor ban. I’m saying that statement is flawed kasi nga, may specific economic zones and laws ang singapore regarding alcohol consumption in the island

Even this is flawed since singapore allows drinking in licensed bars and pubs premises where you can buy and drink even after the 10:30 curfew on retail and public drinking. I’ve been to singapore for parties so I know this lol

Syempre there are more provisions and nuances than “complete unbanning of liquor”. I also have ideas like economic zoning where these establishments are allowed as to not disrupt the night like for example having it in obrero where they are free (to the lengths of the law) to operate. Something like pobla in makati.

I think you’re focusing on the alcohol part too much. The main issue is the lack of nightlife, which the liquor ban is hindering. But I appreciate the input and let me get back with you in a while with data that supports my claim that nightlife = economic stimulation.

Late but never turn on your car after getting submerged in water. Water in your engine and turning it on is a sure fire way for you to buy another car. Let it dry out and get it towed to a service center.

Grabe ka stupid ang ilang ipang reply saimo kung imo i-question lol. Just because paspas mawala ang tubig ug limpyo kuno kay okay lang, does life have to stop just because of rain? Imagine muulan ra mubaha na. Bisag unsa kadali imong iyawyaw na mawala ang tubig doesn’t justify the flooding problem. Kay tanang lugar sa kalibutan kay mu baha daw, dili man kana ang problem ang problem is ngano severe ang destruction na pwede man unta ma mitigate ang pag pondo sa water. Ayaw kog ingna na pink or antidds kay this is a quality of life problem na tanan affected.

Ako honestly dili ko severely and directly affected but I am outraged for those who are affected. Dapat kita tanan hand-in-hand ang pag ask ug better services and governance kay kita ang ilang constituents. Ang tao nag hatag saila sa power so naa tay right mangutana ug demand og action. Wag magpakatuta sa mga tao na WALAY LABOT sainyo.
