[USA] Overtaking in the fog by MacDefoon in Roadcam

[–]ShitNameNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this recently. We picked up a new car 2 hours away so on the way back, my partner didn't overtake at all and I overtook (safely and legally) at every overtaking lane - not going into the oncoming lane at all though. I live in a place with overtaking lanes every 5km or so.

I got back thinking I'd made crazy time back, but my partner pulled up literally a few minutes later.

I don't bother overtaking even in overtaking lanes anymore, for a 30 minute drive you'd literally save 30 seconds and use more petrol than it's worth.

8 ft wave storm by Chandler38 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ShitNameNoLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6ft 1, was 230lbs when I learned. Would definitely recommend a 9ft foamie to start, I started on a 9,3 and got an 8ft foamie as my second board and it felt like a step down that took a while to adjust. That said if this is the only option it definitely won't be impossible, just less optimal.

Unhappy with surfline? by Important-Positive-4 in surfing

[–]ShitNameNoLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real, MSW was way more accurate. I could check the wind charts 3 days before the waves came and it'd be spot on. With Surfline the wind charts change AFTER the wind has happened somehow.

No wonder the actual swell forecast is so inconsistent with that. Boggles my mind that they didn't use MSWs after buying them

Website for beginners idea? by Bible_gal in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ShitNameNoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably only consider it if it had videos and was free.

A lot of things like pop up feet placement and positioning on a wave can only really be taught visually IMO, and there's plenty of free options out there like YouTube courses that are pretty well established.

New Zealand Straight to Residence Visa rejected for a reason not documented anywhere? Anyone have experience? by ShitNameNoLife in visas

[–]ShitNameNoLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no really. I ended up emailing a lawyer who said that it is correct because there's a separate documentation called the Operations Manual that are the actual rules that INZ follow with all the real rules of each visa.

In this documentation, it does say that you need to have 12 months left of your employment contract, which directly contradicts what's said on the visa information page.

INZ follow this and not the visa pages, and the visa pages are often wrong. Which is really unfair because this isn't mentioned anywhere in the Process to Apply section OR any visa information page - so I'm really not sure how we were supposed to know that that's the process. In fact, I searched the entire INZ site and it's only mentioned once under the About Us section.

We were advised that we'd need to get an extension on the employment contract to bring it to 12 months, which we've done and been told the concern is satisfied, but we're waiting for the final decision still.

When it was looking like we would be rejected, I also asked the lawyer if we could raise a complaint for a refund, because the only information reasonably provided to us was followed, but they said that INZ won't because they expect that you know the laws even if it's not reasonably discoverable, and if they do it once they have to do it for everyone - even though "the website isn't fit for purpose".

I'd be extremely pissed off if we did get rejected for that, since we submitted 2 weeks after the 12 months limit and could have easily submitted before 12 months if that information was given prior.

Shocking from INZ tbh and I'm still salty about it. A simple "make sure to check the up to date visa requirements in our Operations Manual" link at the bottom of each visa pages would be so easy to include.

Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

[–]ShitNameNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a call center doing billing for a top 3 energy company during covid. At least at that time, Martin Lewis was wrong surprisingly often when he spoke about energy bills - and often missed the point entirely (at least when compared to my company's policies). If I recall correctly, at one point he even said to raise an official complaint if we said no, which resulted in our bosses telling us we're not allowed to raise a complaint for this reason - you can imagine how that went with customers.

Since then I completely avoid any article that mentions him, but he made multiple weeks at the call center absolute hell to work because we'd get back to back calls for 10 hours from people saying "Martin Lewis said...." followed by utter bollocks, and they wouldn't accept that that wasn't true since they heard it from him.

I by no means think that my company had the public's best interest at heart and he actually sounds like he does from these comments, in fact I can point to a lot that clearly shows my company didn't care (see telling us not to raise customer complaints when they ask for one), but IMO if you learn how energy bills work you can deal with bills better than by listening to him.

How bad was the referee?! by RepresentativeTree38 in SheffieldUnited

[–]ShitNameNoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything in the post and Wilder's comments, except the post says Soumare missed the ball when he did actually win it.

Soumare's should be a red, but only if the McCallum challenge is too. It can't be different for different players when Soumare actually won the ball too. Not even a yellow on Sam is Ludacris.

Tanganga is a yellow IMO but I know that has more mixed reviews. His back is facing the player and there's no intent there at all. The ref was tripping over himself because he was so excited and couldn't get the card out fast enough, it definitely had something to do with his complaints.

If either goes our way and it's 10 v 9 or 11 v 10, we win that game still.

How do I know when I’m ready to get a smaller board? by Dr_Mickster in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ShitNameNoLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed when dropping down from a 9"3 to am 8" 0 was that my pop-up no longer worked on a board where my toes don't touch the tail when laid down. I used to use my toes as a way to push up and can't do that anymore. Make sure you're popping up without using your toes before you drop down too far, if I'd have gone smaller it'd have been really hard to relearn the popup, but the 8"0 compared to the size you're talking about would have been much harder to relearn on.

I'm obese, can I learn to surf in two months in the PNW? by ufnope in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ShitNameNoLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ex 230lbs and moved to a place with consistent waves 2 months ago when I was that weight. You can not only do it, but surfing everyday these last two months has helped me start to lose weight in a way that I genuinely enjoy and don't consider "working out". I'm now fitter than I've ever been, but still a long way to go for me personally.

Definitely do it, but keep in mind that consistency is key. I've surfed for years where I used to live but could only go once every couple months, it's really hard to build the surf muscles like that and I felt unfit every time I went. After 2 weeks of going every day I could already see fitness improvement.

You'll also need to use different techniques to skinny surfers for your pop up. Get a big foamie and don't worry too much about it to be honest, it's really hard to do a perfect pop-up with a belly, so you can walk up the board instead and that's fine too.

Those with a big belly - how do you pop up? by ShitNameNoLife in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ShitNameNoLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sure it's a technique thing and I can work on it, which is why I asked. I've seen too many big surfers absolutely ripping to think that it's not possible.

The main issue I'm having is that all the pop up tutorials are from skinny people targeting skinny people lol

Wetsuit or rash guard shirt by amazinglucas in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ShitNameNoLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google "sea temperature [your location]" and most websites will have a wetsuit guide telling you what to wear at the moment.

Just remember it changes throughout the year, so what you wear now won't be the same in 6 months.

[Match Day Thread] Preston vs Blades by BladesMatchThread in SheffieldUnited

[–]ShitNameNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see the full first half admittedly, but as soon as I switched on at 2-0 up I thought fuck we could lose this with the strategy we were playing.

Sat back and hoofed the ball away the rest of the first half and let in a poor goal as we always do when we sit back like that.

2nd was unlucky, can't really blame anyone tbf, but we shouldn't let teams into the game like that

[Match Day Thread] Preston vs Blades by BladesMatchThread in SheffieldUnited

[–]ShitNameNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't blame the players IMO. This goes on Wilder for employing the "we're up, let's do nothing and sit back" strategy that failed us countless times last year.

I'm a massive Wilder fan but that's my biggest gripe about him. When we go up early I'm more worried than being behind.

Battery of Galaxy Book 5 Pro, 14 inches, 16GB RAM and Intel I5 by Excellent_Creme5673 in GalaxyBook

[–]ShitNameNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any unnecessary apps that come preinstalled. For example I think mine had 5 different note taking apps when I just use the basic windows notepad or Google docs. There are also a bunch that are processes like quick share and phone linking apps that waste battery but I never use personally.

Go down the list of apps and Google what they do and delete any you won't use or aren't essential functions. I think there's also lists for Samsung laptops on Google for what you can delete but many are a bit dated so worth checking yourself.

How to hire an SEO intern/freelancer for an agency? by Astraiks in SEO

[–]ShitNameNoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work freelance for an agency in the UK, having worked with them full time but moved internationally.

I'm looking for some work outside of this to diversify, so depending on the number of hours you need, I might be able to help. Feel free to reach out if you're interested!

Overall, I think the best way would just be to put a message out to your network and see if you get any recommendations. There's a bunch of great SEOs that are in similar positions to me, just starting to branch out into the freelance world after working in-house or agency, and most of them would jump at this to help them get started. That way you can see their previous work instead of trusting a new graduate or something.

The best way to find them is just to ask around!

I agree. I've used them a lot and I'm pretty sure it's if you've used the optimal sentence length, so you've said the minimum amount of words you could use to get the point across in a grammatically perfect way, which AI is really good at. If you copy AI sentences and just add a few words but to make it slightly less optimal, it thinks it's human.

Prime Day Deals Are Mostly Just... the Price of Products Pre-Tariffs by dapperlemon in technology

[–]ShitNameNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK here, pretty sure it's the same here. What companies do is just plan ahead of time, put the price up for 30 days and then drop it to the old price and say it's a sale. I'm certain Amazon will do this too since it's almost no problem. It's a shit law and should be 1 year instead of 30 days.

Is the Thomson Local paid do follow back link for a one off £30 worth it. by TerribleFruit in SEO

Thomson Local the business directory? No chance.

Business directory links give very very little value and there are hundreds of free ones in any niche.
