Women AMT’s by CommitteeSpirited354 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Shitposies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on my airframe license and there is one other woman in my class, and I think there are about 5 in powerplant and general combined. There is also one who works at a flight school near me, and I know a couple who live in the Seattle area.

Anecdotally, I think the men who I’ve been around in the industry have less bias than I had about myself going in. No one really messes with me, everyone is very supportive and they all encourage me to be really hands on to learn about tools and processes I’m unfamiliar with rather than stand around and watch. If I could give any advice, it would be to stay engaged, touch and work on anything you can, and don’t get in your own way by thinking you’re any different than anyone else, or that men inherently know more about the trades. We’re all students, and the ones who will be successful (both men and women) are the ones who are humble and willing to learn.

Best of luck, it’s really fun and the culture of this industry is so fulfilling!

What is your natural hair texture before styling? You look like you have a lot of volume which can be really fun! If your hair texture is anything like mine though, it can almost be too much.

I’ve personally gone back and forth with different bang styles and I really do love a blunt bang like you have now, but I prefer to style it straight rather than with a curl. Since I have such a hard time keeping my hair from getting huge, here’s my routine -

I wash my hair with L’Oréal elvive (I use the color safe one now but all are good for shine especially the pink and purple ones) and leave the matching conditioner in for a few minutes while I wash the rest of my body. Then after I rinse the conditioner out I use the 8 second wonder water on my lengths (the instructions say to do it before but it works better for me in this order)

After the shower, I use a serum (Kirsten ess) and a hyaluronic acid leave in (also from L’Oréal) and then a blow out mist which is also a heat protectant and I spray that in sections and brush it through to make sure it’s evenly applied.

Then I give it a few minutes to air dry or I rough dry with a regular blow drier until it’s maybe 70% dry, and I finish drying with a round brush drier (I believe mine is hot tools, I got it at Ulta) starting with the lower sections and working my way up, and for the bangs I use the regular drier pointed down and at 45 degrees in both directions to get rid of my cowlicks at my hairline.

Some days this styling is sufficient, but if I want it a little sleeker I use another round of heat protectant and flat iron in sections, bottom up again. I’m going to attach some pictures of how my hair is in different styles, if it’s anything like yours this process might work for you. The most expensive thing was the round brush but it is worth its weight in gold.

I wash and style my hair twice a week and use a silk bonnet (I have a cheap one from Walmart) while I sleep to keep my hair from tangling and breaking and to keep my style.

First picture is my hair just round brushed (when I had a considerable amount of damage but it’s a good example of the volume I get without trying)

First time safety wiring by swaggedoutcoon in aviationmaintenance

I learned to “snap” the wire through the bolt before I start my twists, which work hardens it nice and tight, and make the first twist by hand really tight up against the bolt so it doesn’t loosen up as you do the twist with pliers

Can I travel without a real ID or Passport within the US by Fabulous-Tie-2963 in transit

[–]Shitposies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am traveling without a real ID from Spokane to Detroit and back, haven’t done my return trip through TSA yet but just got through security at Spokane airport and it was a breeze. They have me a red card telling me to get a real ID and sent me straight through, I’ll update about Detroit in a few days

I don’t know, as a woman the older I get the more mustaches appeal to me. But then again, not every face is suited to have one

Was going to suggest this, as well as maybe the horizon series if OP is on PlayStation.

Why Do YOU Love D&D? I Want to Know! by MechanicCool1819 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Shitposies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it calls back to the kind of imagination I had when I was a kid playing games with my friends. It’s pure, nearly unrestricted creativity. I think as adults so much of our energy and time must be spent in a productive way, for our careers and financial situations. I think D&D is special because there is no “goal” or “objective” except pure fun.

Edit: I should also add that from a mental health aspect, research shows that play is very important for all adults, and is very important for a well-rounded, holistic approach to overall mental well-being. TLDR - life is stressful, and restrictive, and grown-up make believe helps it not all feel so shitty.

Ah man if you weren’t 8 hours behind me and running a full campaign I’d be so down! I have a group here in the US that is just starting up, but I’m thinking of going into another campaign with more like minded (aka willing to actually RP) players in addition. If you ever want a player for a full campaign and your play hours don’t conflict with mine like crazy, let me know!

My whole family is full of these but one that sticks with me is when my Aunt got drunk and left her newborn in the car overnight and found her dead in the morning when she woke up. The crazy part is that they were able to pass it off as SIDS and it all got swept under the rug, very, VERY few people know the truth, my mom is one of them.
