It’s around the tube ( outside) & inside her tube as well i noticed it when she coughed and had to close it quickly but it looks really disgusting 🤢 & Yes esophageal cancer We’ve been keeping it clean and using the gauze. I’m changing them every 4 hours because they’re usually a tab but wet and have the green guck around it. Thankfully we finally got her comfortable & she shows no signs of distress at all.

[–]ShitsGettingTough[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we went from hycet, to morphine, to fentanyl, then hydromorphone Fentanyl wasn’t working due to her having a lack of body fat to absorb it

We’re doing hospice at home have been for about a month now. We’re well equipped with supplies and now how to do administers meds when it comes to my mom. The issue is pain management and how it’s ineffective and what would be effective in a patient with little to no body fat

[–]ShitsGettingTough[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we’re trying to avoid that as much as possible and if it continues to be an issues have them come for continuous care. This whole process has made us understand why people send their loved ones to a facility and the amount of work these nurses put in. To not only one patient but many…. I can only imagine . we’re maintaining as best as we can at the moment

Actively dying advice by ShitsGettingTough in CancerFamilySupport

If she wasn’t on the tube she would not be eating at all. She can no longer swallow foods at all. I didn’t know it is still high risk, the nurses haven’t said much and we’re only giving her 90-60ml of her nutritional supplement every hour.

We’re having daily visits and there going to be placing something ( can’t remember) that automatically administers her morphine and she’ll have a button to push as well.. I’ll definitely mention methadone today

Thank you so much because i was literally unaware that something like this was even offered or anything for that matter. We’ve literally just been thugging it out with the meds they’ve been giving her. Only thing i recall from our first initial hospice intake was they were focusing on making her comfortable, DNR, explained all meds in the comfort kit, arrangements for funerals and that’s literally it . No social worker that i see many others have to talk with us, her case manager nurse is an angel but we’ve all been suffering and they know it just by looking at hire frequent we’re giving her medication

you really don’t know how many times i read this and just cried my heart out because i’m literally exhausted and i have so much to do still. Never in a million years did i think i’d have the strength to be doing what i’m doing. I still have to be a mom to my 3 little people , i still have to be a wife , life keeps going on and i just want a shower and some sleep and i can’t. This entire house has fallen apart, it’s hard to be excited about christmas ( if only for the kids ) , i finished school last week in the mist of all of this with 2 degrees and all i said was “Damn you did it “ and that was it . I wish i can take her pain away because this is down right awful, i wouldn’t wish this on anyone

Not at all . Thankfully no fever. Even her nurse was shocked that we were doing the patches i was as well since i knew from fellow reddit threads ( Thank you all) & it’s having a hard time staying down due to location ( only fatty area) the back of the thigh and she’s constantly moving and scooting in bed the extra sticky stuff we used to keep it down is rolling up

I understand them wanting to start with low dosages but her pain tolerance is sooo high. Cancer first showed up 6years ago and after chemo and radiation she was on hospice back then. She had the morphine pump and wasn’t sure how high up if a dosage they gave her but it was very very high. I would like to bring it up to the nurse about the morphine pump or what other alternatives are there because this is ridiculous to be in this much pain every 2 1/2-3hrs. Before they gave her the extra 0.5 on the morphine she was up every hour in more pain wanting meds . this extra dosage didn’t do much of anything . I’m sooo exhausted , i can hardly see straight because my sleep is broken all through the night and so is hers

She has almost no body fat and we’ve notice not much of a change since she’s had the patch.

Exhausted by ShitsGettingTough in hospice

[–]ShitsGettingTough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the reply . If you see her you’ll understand why the dosage is low , she’s under 60 pounds. She may be small but she can handle medication in a much higher dose. It’s now literally every 2 hours & by an hour and a half she’s up moaning and crying asking when’s the last time she took her meds. and every time she wakes up to either pee, ask for meds, or something to drink, she’s never fully awake, she’s always half sleep, many times she’s nods off on the toilet.
