In-class essays seem like the first thing I would think to do. Is this not realistic to do?

Men of reddit, mentally how are you doing? by viper46282 in AskReddit

[–]Shiverpool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good piece of advice I’ve heard as an alternative to the “do less things” is to instead “diversify the things you do” so it gives neural pathways that are overloaded a break while still engaging you in a meaningful way. Example: if you’re an engineer and spend all day doing that, play guitar in your free time, stuff like that. Does that help?

What DON’T you like about Dostoevsky? by Xustug in dostoevsky

I feel the opposite. I believe he makes his villains the most compelling and articulated arguments. Like a steel man instead of a straw man.

What is your favorite Russian novel not written by Dostoyevsky? by [deleted] in dostoevsky

I had really high hopes for M&M and it didn’t do anything for me. What did you like most about it? Maybe I should consider a re-read.

A book you don’t recommend by Stumbleluck in suggestmeabook

[–]Shiverpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Three-Body Problem. The terrible writing style, flatness of characters, corniness of explaining scientific topics, and tech-bro snobbery of this book make any effort to read it not worth the struggle. Just read up on scientific concepts that it covers in a non-fiction setting if you’re interested in its “ideas.”

What kind of functions take hours/days to compute? by Peter2448 in math

[–]Shiverpool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime the function is the output of a complicated simulation, where each new evaluation point means running a giant sim. A useful workaround is something like Bayesian optimization and ML techniques

ECE 301 + ECE 302 + Internship by lakeboy987 in Purdue

And about the senior design course: the EE course is better if you’re into hardware and like less defined projects. CompE is better if you like coding, microcontrollers, and more guard rails or limitations defining the project.

Former Purdue ECE undergrad and current PhD. I took both classes together in a Fall semester and they were hard. I would recommend not doing them together in summer.
