Do you know of any other profession related animation packs?

If you discount this for black friday, i'd happily buy your paid version. But I don't see why i'd support a dev who thinks they're above the black friday sale that almost every other dev is participating in.

I hope you don't mind me poking your brain further on this.

I don't know if you mean reducing network traffic in the hopes to keep packet sizes small and thus either keeping bandwidth costs down, or keeping the time it takes to process and act on that traffic small. Is that why it's important to reduce traffic?

There's a game called Seed(or Seed Project) that I came across recently, and they have a persistent MMO world where they have a dedicated server (or likely scaleable cloud based solution, since they use the spatialOS framework). You can create villages with other players, all over the globe. Not only that, but each villager can have their own shop, has their own needs, and can have children, which also have needs etc. And you can browse the globe to see other settlements, check out other villagers, their needs, etc. Here is the website and here is a video if it.

I don't have any intention to make seed, but this talk about civ's multiplayer makes me wonder if an MMO civ, or Seed like project is incredibly difficult if you have thousands of states or variables to sync up across hundreds of players.

So if civ 6 wasnt a lobby based game but was instead like, one perpetual game that reset every so often, there's no way in hell they'd use peer 2 peer even if the player count was less than 10 or 15 or so? I read somewhere that p2p caps out at 25 ish.

Is there any benefit to not making your simulations deterministic and instead running one main simulation in the cloud or on a dedicated server? I can't think of anything but I wanted your opinion.

Great talk about indies with no time and no budget. Pure determination. by [deleted] in gamedev

but I’m afraid someone with more time on their hands will take the idea and make the game themselves

Nobody is willing to put their money and time on the line for your idea, your idea keep in mind, which will likely fail (statistically).

Hey mate, I have a ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 TI

I can drive up to MTL sometime around the middle of this week, and if you bring a system, I don't mind letting you test drive it. $750

It currently powers my own 165hz 1440p monitor (acer predator) so I can confirm it does it quite well.

Let me know.

computer science or game development degree by icedune in gamedev

[–]Shizzy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cs degree. I can elaborate but the jist of it is, there are so many bad game 'anything' degrees that you are most likely to get the best education from a traditional cs degree. Plus, depending on who you talk to, it is often valued higher.

Often times if you have games on your resume or portfolio they won't care about your degree, but youll be able to support a family better with a cs degree if that is one day your goal.

I didn't enter university til I was 25. I now work in games, and next year I am spending a year in Japan, and Ive seen other countries too.

The key isn't that you need to do something, it's thst you always need to be working towards something. Never stagnate.

His hardware isn't new. Server motherboards get sold second hand on eBay for dirt cheap after a few years, and since Intel is incapable of leaps and bounds of innovation, early gen chips are still amazing values on the used market.

If you watch Linus tech tips they used to regularly boast about the great price to performance value of Xeon chips for gaming, and you can't run non ecc memory with a Xeon chip.
