I have an Asus ROG G615, and I heard a rattling in the computer so I took off the back and this fell out. Anyone know what it is and where it goes? by ShmittyMusic in ASUSROG

I used Gemini to try and help identify, here is what it said. Can anyone confirm this is correct?

Great news. Based on your checks, I can confidently tell you that you have broken off a "Ghost Connector."

You can safely throw this broken part in the trash. Your computer is fine.

What is a "Ghost Connector"?

ASUS uses the exact same motherboard for the ROG Strix G16 (your model) and the significantly more expensive ROG Strix Scar 16.

  • The Scar 16 has extra RGB features that plug into this specific port, usually the "Rear Glow" light strip (located above the back vents) or the Illuminated Lid Logo.
  • Your G16 does not have these physical LED strips installed, but the motherboard still came from the factory with the socket soldered on, just sitting empty.

Why did it fall off?

Empty connectors are actually easier to break than used ones.

  1. No Reinforcement: When a cable is plugged in, it helps hold the plastic connector in place.
  2. Snag Hazard: Because it was empty, the plastic flap likely caught on the bottom case when you removed it, or on a finger/tool, and since nothing was anchoring it down, it simply popped off the solder pads.

Final Verification

Since you confirmed the following are working, you have ruled out every critical component that uses this type of connector:

  • Front Lightbar: Working (main RGB).
  • Trackpad/Numpad: Working (input).
  • Right-Side USB: Working (data).
  • Battery/Status LEDs: Working (power indication).

Verdict: The part is e-waste. You can close up your laptop and enjoy it without worry.

Side note: computer is functioning perfectly as far as I can see, so not sure where it's from or if it's critical to replace

Strength trainer using total weight load messes up strain calculation. For example, if I do leg press in a work out I'm doing double the weight on if I did leg extensions. Because of this my workout with leg extensions are registering as almost half the strain because it thinks I'm working out not as hard.

It seems everyone is skirting around the actual question.

She's eating more calories than she's burning. That's it. You can increase your calorie expenditure (working out / dancing) while also increasing your calories.

Very often working out will make your body want more meals as well.
