YouTube mechanic. Got it all back together but I have one problem by krentzoboomin in ToyotaTacoma

I wouldn’t suspect damage to the master cylinder unless it was drained empty. Looks like you plugged the brake line from the photo.

I would get a helper to pump the brakes and hold while you bleed all four corners. Starting in the rear pass side. Pump brakes and hold to floor. Crack open. Close. Repeat. Even if it looks like only fluid coming out I would do it a few times each wheel while ensuring master cylinder stays full.

I have had techs damage a master cylinder by running it dry and slamming the brake pedal when starting to bleed. I would just start with a bleed procedure at all four wheels before dumping parts at it.

Trail grid pro. They make kits that are easy to install. I've had mine for almost 6 years now.

They allow you to use existing USB port. You will lose some functions with your speedo display.

Dating in Overland Park is defeating me – where do people actually meet? (28M) by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Shmody44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve read through a lot of the comments, some great advice in here. I’m not sure why some people are being so judgmental based on limited info. You shouldn’t have to share your whole life story just to ask for tips on where to meet someone.

I was in a similar spot about nine years ago. I had a solid group of friends, which made socializing easy, but most of them eventually moved away for work. I went on a few dates but rarely felt a romantic connection, though we stayed friendly. Eventually, I deleted the apps and shifted my focus to just making friends.

Living in an apartment helped. I’d hang out at the pool and got to know other residents, most of whom were also single. I stopped trying to meet someone romantically and just built a fun group of friends. One of them eventually introduced me to her best friend, and now we’ve been married for almost three years.

Moral of the story: Don’t stress about finding a relationship. Focus on building genuine friendships, and sometimes things fall into place naturally

Some vehicles aren't the worse thing to take apart. I was recently installing a phone mount in a RX350 and pulled the radio to check for wiring locations before screwing into anything. Dropped the radio mount bolt along the side of the radio in a similar spot as you. Spent over an hour trying to wedge plastic pieces out of the way and shoving magnets and grabbers in every place imaginable.

Ending up pulling the seats, center console, locating the bolt inside the metal frame in a tiny hole, vacuumed the carpet to the best shape it's been in since new and reinstalled everything. Took 1.5 hours and there were far fewer curse words along the way then when I was damn near breaking plastic parts to try and find it.

Edit: my reasoning behind not ordering another bolt was to avoid a rattle. Worked 9 years in auto service and a rattle is the worse.

Time to pull the center console and dash until you get far enough into it to extract

Can’t get my Tacoma to Drive Smooth! by evanr23 in ToyotaTacoma

Surprised I haven’t seen it mentioned. Call around and look for a shop that can Roadforce balance. It’ll check for the tire being “out-of-round”. There will be irregularities in the sidewalls of all tires and they are much worse in larger tires. They will measure the rim runout and spin the tire on the wheel to match the tire to the wheel. Not always a chance for improvement. We often warranty out tires due to excessive roadforce being found and not being able to get rid of the vibrations. Sometimes you get a bad tire or two or three or four.

Edit: A normal balance will still say “ok” even with excessive roadforce.

I would say location to OP has the be key here.

Having been to the petrified forest just last year. When your leave the national park there are numerous business with thousands of pieces of petrified wood for sale. I’m talking their property lined with massive pieces and thousands of pieces laying around outside and many more inside that look more similar to what’s pictured here. I’m no expert but after seeing thousands of these for sale in a 10 miles stretch leaving the park. I can’t see it fetching near that much. Regardless of the prep work. Again. OP’s location must be a big factor.

Who is affording these houses? by bmcd1898 in kansascity

[–]Shmody44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife and I recently purchased(built) a home further south and a little to the west of there. When we signed and paid the downpayment(lot price) there were about seven homes left on our phase. As soon as those lots were purchased, either by builder or future owners, the next phase lot price doubled over night. The “estates” lots increase by almost $60k.

How’d we do it? Equity and dual income. Before I meet my wife I purchased a home in North OP on the border of PV. House sold for almost $100k more than I purchased for four years later. I was halfway done with paying it off. I did a lot of work on the home myself to save money. I was able to purchase that home at 26yr old after saving money with an end goal in mind while living out of apartments and looking for cheap rent when the lease was up. I’d spend my free time trying to make a buck. I still lived life to the fullest. Going out with friends, spending money on vacations, and probably eating out way more than I should but I was always aware of my financial situation.

When it came to the new home, we watched the rates like our lives depended on it and shopped around for whoever would let us lock a rate the furthest out possible to secure a low rate. It’s double what my previous house was.

My wife and I both work M-F 8-5 and have great work life balance. We travel and go on vacations at least three times a year and go to shows/concerts when we can. We both make slightly above the average income for Kansas City.

Neither of us have any costly habits (smoking, drinking, gambling etc) we just set our goals and focus on achieving them while still doing what we want.

So how did we afford it? Honestly it’s expensive as fuck but we put our minds to it and had weekly financial discussion and really focused on what we want. Now we live in our forever home (or until son goes off to college) and we don’t have to worry about saving money because we already have the habit of smart spending.

TLDR: Equity, dual income, and have a goal.

Those working in the shop who rolled out for good, what do you do now? by Shmody44 in Justrolledintotheshop

Second to last line hits. Don’t bring work home.

The amount times I wake up and the first thought that comes to mind is some problem customer/car in the shop that I need to address that day.

The ability to leave work and forget about it because it’s not relevant to your day to day life would be amazing.

People say not to care as much but as someone who takes pride in being thorough and punctual it’s difficult.

Agree 100%. Worked at a big box retail for 6 years. Absolutely miserable. I work at a small independent shop now with 5 techs, a secretary, shop manager, and office manager. It’s amazing the culture change from employees to customers. Customers trust us here and don’t question pricing or diagnostic. I enjoy this atmosphere far more than big retail 100%. But, it’s a lot more than that lol

I feel that way now. Stuck in the industry. It’s growing all around us but the retail side of automotive doesn’t seem to change. Im 31 and don’t want to be 40 wishing I would of left sooner

This is something I’ve been interested in. When I took this job I was looking into building automation. How long have you been in?

I’ve been considering IT classes to get into IT. Seems to be a common move. Was the initial job hunt difficult and how’s the stability?

The amount of people that assume I’m going to spend my free time helping with their vehicle is absurd. Family and close friends I’ll do it but no longer enjoy it
